Job description

Director of Landscape Architecture

Company Name: STRAND
Location: Dallas, TX preferred, with flexibility for the right candidate
Project Focus: Residential Communities, Amenity Centers, Parks and Recreation, Commercial, Mixed-Use, Streetscapes, Hospitality, Healthcare
Work Setting: Full-Time, Flexible | Integrated Multidisciplinary Design Environment
Base Salary: $90,000 to $150,000 annually
Total Compensation Package: Base salary plus business development and performance incentives
Recruited Exclusively By: Luxus Group

Position Overview

STRAND is looking for a licensed landscape architect to lead and grow its landscape architecture practice. This is a leadership role for someone who wants to move past project-level design and take responsibility for a department: its people, its standards, its client base, and its financial performance.

STRAND is a multidisciplinary firm, so you would work alongside architects, civil and structural engineers, MEP, planners, surveyors, and visualization staff under one roof. That structure means landscape is part of an integrated site solution rather than an outside consultant brought in late.

You would set the direction for the practice, build and mentor the team, direct project delivery from concept through construction administration, and develop client relationships across residential, commercial, mixed-use, and land development work.

Core Responsibilities

  • Practice Growth and Strategy: Lead and grow the landscape architecture practice. Develop annual business plans, manage departmental profitability, and set long-term targets
  • Team Leadership: Recruit, mentor, and develop landscape architects and designers. Establish department standards, workflows, and quality control procedures
  • Project Delivery: Direct projects from concept through construction administration, including landscape plans, planting design, irrigation, hardscape, site furnishings, and construction detailing
  • Multidisciplinary Coordination: Work with STRAND's architecture, civil, structural, MEP, and land planning teams to deliver integrated site solutions
  • Client Development: Build long-term client relationships, identify new opportunities, lead proposals and presentations, and negotiate scopes and contracts
  • Technical and Regulatory: Maintain compliance with municipal, state, and federal requirements. Support sustainable design, stormwater-sensitive site planning, and native planting strategies
  • Financial Management: Oversee department utilization, monitor project budgets and schedules, manage resource allocation, and track financial performance

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Landscape Architecture from an accredited program
  • Licensure: Active Registered Landscape Architect license in Texas, or the ability to obtain Texas licensure through reciprocity
  • Experience: 10 or more years of progressive professional experience, including at least 5 years in leadership, department management, or practice growth
  • Software: AutoCAD, AutoCAD Civil 3D, Land F/X, Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUp, Lumion or Enscape, and Bluebeam

Preferred Qualifications

  • Sector Experience: Master-planned residential community development, with a track record working with national homebuilders and land developers
  • Regulatory Experience: Working knowledge of municipal entitlement, zoning, and permitting
  • Business Development: Demonstrated success in client acquisition and growing a practice
  • Licensure: Active landscape architecture licenses in multiple states

Compensation

  • Base salary of $90,000 to $150,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications
  • Business development and performance incentives
