Job description

Director of Labor Relations

This is an excellent opportunity within a growing Human Resources Department. We are looking for someone with a strong attention to detail who serves as the Company's internal expert on labor relations, employment compliance, and pre-and-post litigation labor employment matters. This position partners with Human Resources, Operations, Payroll, Compliance, and outside legal counsel to proactively identify and mitigate employment risk while managing labor disputes, agency responses, investigations, and employment claims.

This position leads employment defense strategies through resolution of labor matters and serves as the primary liaison with outside counsel when legal representation becomes necessary.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee outside counsel related to state and federal regulator administrative matters, pre-and-post litigation employment matters concerning a diverse range of?labor related issues, not limited to:
    • Unfair labor practice charges at the National Labor Relations Board (“NLRB”)
    • Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (“EEOC”)
    • Department of Labor (“DOL”)
    • Fair Labor Standards Act (“FLSA”)
    • Occupational Safety & Health Administration (“OSHA”)
    • Union Labor and Collective Bargaining Agreement related issues
    • Federal and state administrative matters not limited to wage and hour issues, leave management, disability accommodating issues, harassment and retaliation allegations, wage and hour violations, and other workplace issues
  • Assist external counsel with investigations and information requests
  • Collect, organize, manage, and electronically archive claim/litigation documentation
  • Provide claim-related trend assessments
  • Draft and insert data into monthly / quarterly executive summaries and financial reserve assessments
  • Provide policy improvements
  • Reduce litigation exposure
  • Review, process and track legal fee invoices and payments
  • Conduct internal audits
  • Provide internal case/claim reviews
  • Engage in telephonic and virtual communications with internal personnel as well as external attorneys and federal/state regulatory agencies
  • Strong attention to detail, and able to organize and analyze a high volume of documentation and information
  • All other tasks and special projects as assigned

Qualifications:

  • High level of professionalism and confidentiality
  • Strong organizational and project management skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to multitask and meet deadlines
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization and to collaborate cross-functionally across a wide range of roles within the organization and with several different geographic office locations
  • Knowledge of litigation case structure, legal terminology, and administrative and/or court systems

Requirements:

  • Not less than 8 years of experience specifically in traditional labor and employment support/practices
  • Experience with labor related insurance defense litigation is a plus
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Knowledge of software tools-programs (Microsoft Office tools, Teams, SharePoint, Word, Excel, Adobe)
  • Exercise self-discipline, motivation, and enthusiasm
  • Able to pass a background check and drug screening
