Job description

The NIH Clinical Center is the nation’s premier biomedical research hospital, located on a 300-acre campus, supporting intramural research conducted by the NIH’s 27 Institutes and Centers.

About the Role

We are seeking an exceptional Supervisory Nurse (GS-14) to lead our 12-bed Adult Intensive Care Unit and our new 3-bed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), opening January 2027. This Nurse Manager will guide clinical operations, patient safety, and quality outcomes across both high-acuity units as the Clinical Center advances an integrated adult and pediatric critical care model. The role is central to strengthening pediatric research capabilities, supporting translational medicine trials, and driving continuous improvement as we launch the PICU.

Why Join Us?

  • Lead within a Magnet with Distinction™ designated nursing environment
  • Operationalize a new unit and establish its foundation
  • Oversee patient care, safety, operations, and nursing excellence

Qualifications

The ideal candidate brings 3-5 years of clinical nursing experience and 1-2 years of leadership experience in an acute care setting, including prior leadership in adult ICU, PICU, or mixed programs. Candidates should demonstrate competency in nursing and operational leadership, quality and safety improvement, human resources and talent management, and possess strong judgment, initiative, communication, critical‑thinking, and conflict‑resolution skills. BSN/MSN or MS in a related field preferred. An unrestricted license in any U.S. state, territory, DC, or Puerto Rico is required.

Pay range and compensation package

Salary: $143,913 - $187,093 per year, with comprehensive federal benefits including health insurance, retirement options, generous leave, and work/life balance.
