Job description

Role Summary:

The Senior Network Engineer at Perfecta is responsible for maintaining the design and integrity of the corporate enterprise network, which also includes customer and program enclaves. Responsible for engineering, monitoring, and evolving a network between two satellite offices and the network hub located in a data center in northern Virginia, as well as data centers around the globe. Your network will meet corporate objectives and the demands of customers by dynamic design, configuration, monitoring, and maintenance of the network and network devices. Must be able to implement, monitor, and maintain an MPLS-based CAN, as well as WAN circuits. Must be able to learn and work with non-industry standard hardware, such as firewalls, and be able register public domains and set up routing for them. You will provide technical assistance to team members for networked equipment supporting our customers’ missions. You will make recommendations for network improvements, including cost estimates, and will mentor at least one junior network administrator with whom you will be working.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Must be able to manage an MPLS-based network and understand how to bond multiple WAN connections to provide fault-tolerance.

  • Work closely with the Director of IT and other senior management to advise on network aspects of in-house developed hardware, use of third-party network elements, advise customers on network topics, and work with security team members to design, deploy, and manage secure networks (LAN, CAN, WLAN, WAN)

  • Configure and install network devices and services: firewalls, routers, switches, VPN, load balancer, WAN.

  • Teach, coach, and guide junior network engineer(s)

  • Proactively monitor network performance and integrity, and troubleshoot network-related issues, including DNS

  • Create, oversee, and routinely test security measures, including authentication and disaster recovery measures.

  • Communicate with end users when necessary.

  • Maintain complete and comprehensive technical documentation of the network and customer network configurations.

  • Must be adept at creating and updating network topology diagrams using MS Visio

  • Continually recommend improvements to enhance network performance, capacity, reliability, and scalability while constantly looking for ways to lower costs

  • Install networks and equipment in OCONUS locations as directed by the project PM.

  • Working knowledge of and proficiency with network hardware, such as Cisco, Cisco Meraki, Dell switches, Netgate Firewalls, Juniper, Fortinet, Ubiquiti.

  • Expert knowledge and proficiency with networking concepts: IP management, LAN/CAN/WAN design, network maintenance & monitoring, troubleshooting

  • Comfortable with deploying changes to production environments to minimize downtime and risk of failure.

  • Possesses detailed knowledge and is familiar with network and routing protocols: MPLS, TCP/IP, BGP, VLANs, VPNs.

  • Working knowledge and proficiency with common network and Linux-based operating systems.

  • Familiar with access control models and network security.

  • Working knowledge and proficiency with network diagnostic, monitoring, and protocol analysis tools.

  • Ability to make custom Ethernet cables and troubleshoot and trace fiber and copper cables.

Education/Experience:

  • BS in Computer Network Engineering, Computer Science, Telecommunications, or related engineering field highly desired

  • At least 10 years of experience working as a Senior Network Engineer/Architect.

Additional Requirements:

  • Professional certifications: CCNP required; CCIE highly desired.

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.

  • Must be able to obtain a TS/SCI security clearance.
