Central Louisiana State Hospital located in Pineville, Louisiana is seeking applicants for a vacant position in our Medical Services Department as a Physician/Medical Director - Region or Facility who provides medical/clinical services to inpatient clients at Central Louisiana State Hospital.
The Physician/Medical Director - Region or Facility plays a vital role for the Louisiana Department of Health in the Behavioral Health community by utilizing CLSH's values and mission to deliver quality and effective care to our patients. The hospital is highly committed to cooperative work with other state agencies and with the state and regional mental health program to insure the integration and coordination of hospital-community services into a comprehensive system of mental health care.

Licensure to practice medicine in the State of Louisiana
Job Specification
To provide medical care and emergency treatment to inpatient clients.
Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
  • Provide management and supervision over 3 physicians and 4 department head employees, making sure accurate and meaningful performance plans are developed, work is monitored with coaching, adequate direction and training is provided and evaluations are conducted according to DHH guidelines.
  • Provide direct psychiatric care and medical patient care including making unit rounds, conducting multidisciplinary staffing, and conducting treatment plan updates.
  • Coordinate duties and functions of all clinical staff including psychologists, nurses, social workers, activity therapists, and others providing direct patient care.
  • Provide physician on-call coverage every other weekend and as needed during the week, as well as maintain on-call status, being available from 4:30pm to 8:00am daily, weekends, and holidays to respond to medical psychiatric needs.
  • Attend and participate in hospital committees including Executive Management Team, P&T Committee, Quality Improvement Committee, HIMs Committee, and chairing Medical Executive Committee.
  • Participate in continuing education programs.
  • Annually review and update Medical Staff Bylaws and hospital policies and procedures, ensuring the hospital is in compliance with Joint Commission Standards at all times.
  • Willingly accept and perform additional duties not listed but necessary for smooth operation of the hospital.
  • Serve as clinical leader of the treatment teams. Examine, diagnose and treat mentally ill patients including new admissions.
  • Testify as an expert witness in court regarding inpatients.
  • Perform Psychiatric evaluations and prescribe emergency treatment and/or medication.
  • Approve and sign treatment plans developed by the interdisciplinary treatment team and adhere to prescribed treatment regimens. Approve necessary changes in treatment plans dependent upon patients' progress.
  • Order EEG's, psychological tests, x-rays, dental work, lab tests, special diets, medications, etc. as appropriate.
  • Conduct interviews with families and relatives and prepare correspondence.
  • Perform case recording in accordance with the approved case recording system.
  • Regularly attend Medical Staff and other committee meetings as scheduled.
  • If Board Certified, maintain current certification.
  • Comply with CME requirements for state licensure and/or Board Certification.
  • Adhere to LDH, OBH, Civil Service and CLSH rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and to the legal and ethical standards of the profession.
