About the Team 
Walmart’s Last Mile Delivery (LMD) organization powers one of the largest and fastest-growing delivery ecosystems in the world, enabling millions of deliveries across grocery, general merchandise, pharmacy, and same-day fulfillment. 
This role leads the engineering organizations responsible for Dynamic Promise and Trip Management, mission-critical platforms that power delivery planning, orchestration, routing, execution, and optimization across Walmart’s Last Mile network. These platforms play a foundational role in ensuring orders are delivered with speed, accuracy, reliability, and optimal cost efficiency at enterprise scale. 
What You’ll Do 
As Group Director of Engineering, you will provide strategic and operational leadership for large-scale engineering organizations responsible for Walmart’s Dynamic Promise and Trip Management platforms. 
You will define the long-term technology vision, drive organizational execution, and lead the development of highly scalable platforms that power delivery planning and execution across Walmart’s Last Mile ecosystem. 
You will: 
  • Lead multiple engineering organizations responsible for real-time planning, orchestration, routing, execution, and optimization platforms operating at enterprise scale 
  • Define and execute multi-year technology and platform strategies aligned to Walmart’s Last Mile Delivery business priorities and growth objectives  
  • Drive engineering excellence across architecture, platform reliability, observability, resiliency, operational maturity, security, and software quality  
  • Build and scale highly available distributed systems supporting delivery promise computation, trip planning, dispatching, routing optimization, and execution workflows  
  • Partner closely with Product, Operations, Supply Chain, Marketplace, Data Science, Finance, and executive leadership to improve delivery speed, operational efficiency, customer experience, and cost optimization  
  • Lead platform modernization and transformation initiatives focused on scalability, latency reduction, developer productivity, operational efficiency, and engineering velocity  
  • Drive AI-driven optimization, intelligent automation, and data-informed decision-making across logistics and execution platforms  
  • Establish strong operational rigor across production systems, including incident management, telemetry, distributed tracing, capacity planning, and performance engineering  
  • Influence enterprise-wide technology strategy and help shape the future of Walmart’s logistics and fulfillment capabilities 
  • Build, mentor, and develop senior engineering leaders and high-performing organizations while fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, inclusion, and customer obsession  
  • Lead organizational scaling, succession planning, talent development, and cross-functional alignment across engineering and business organizations  
What You’ll Bring 
  • 15+ years of software engineering experience with significant experience leading large-scale engineering organizations and senior engineering leaders 
  • Proven track record building and operating highly scalable distributed systems and real-time operational platforms at enterprise scale
  • Strong technical expertise across cloud-native architectures, distributed systems, APIs, real-time processing, optimization platforms, and high-throughput systems  
  • Experience leading mission-critical platforms with strong operational excellence, resiliency, availability, and performance requirements  
  • Demonstrated success driving platform modernization, organizational transformation, and engineering operational maturity initiatives 
  • Strong executive communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence cross-functional and senior leadership teams  
  • Experience leading organizations through rapid growth, scaling challenges, and complex technology transformations 
  • Strong people leadership skills with experience managing managers, senior engineering leaders, and large engineering organizations  
  • Ability to operate effectively in highly complex, fast-paced, and ambiguous environments  
  • Experience with AI/ML-driven optimization systems, logistics technology, intelligent automation, or operational platforms is strongly preferred  
 
Preferred Qualifications 
  • Experience building platforms supporting logistics, supply chain, marketplace, mobility, or Last Mile Delivery ecosystems  
  • Experience operating large-scale real-time planning and execution systems supporting millions of operational decisions daily 
  • Familiarity with routing optimization, fulfillment systems, dispatching, or delivery orchestration platforms  
  • Experience driving enterprise-wide observability, reliability engineering, and operational excellence initiatives  
  • Experience leading globally distributed engineering organizations

The annual salary range for this position is $254,000.00 - $481,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include :
