As a Software Process Improvement Engineer, you will help MathWorks Software Development teams learn, adopt, and leverage Lean problem-solving methods, tools, and activities. We partner with Software Development managers and staff to continuously improve the processes, practices, and skills used to develop our products.
You will lead process improvement efforts using methods and tools like: A3, root cause analysis (5 Why's), countermeasure implementation, kaizen events, value streams, process documentation, change management, and other Lean methods. Based on your experience, you will help teams apply structured problem-solving methods, support organizational change initiatives, contribute to the evolution of our continuous improvement practices, and develop learning resources and tools that strengthen capability across the organization.
Our group works cross-functionally on a wide variety of projects in teams across the organization, at every stage of the project lifecycle. The ideal candidate will have experience working with SDLC, combine a passion for process improvement and software development, with excellence in verbal and written communication, creativity, initiative, and resourcefulness. A proven ability to facilitate complex cross-functional initiatives, build stakeholder alignment, navigate ambiguity, and guide teams toward sustainable improvements is strongly desired.

Responsibilities
  • Develop a deep understanding of process improvement philosophies, practices, and tools at MathWorks, as well as related industry concepts. Provide consultancy to internal Software Development teams on an ad hoc as well as formal basis. Help strategize and improve the way we do continuous improvement throughout the organization.
  • Lead and facilitate improvement efforts while partnering with sponsors and process owners. Work closely with process owners and stakeholders to drive the improved way of working into the organization.
  • Facilitate organizational adoption of improved processes, tools, and resources. Produce change management plans and resources that rollout new best practices and help staff members successfully adopt them. Evaluate and report out on progress against business drivers and related metrics/KPIs.
  • Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of content including processes, methods, learning resources, references, and tools. Pilot content and assess against defined measures of success.
  • Build organizational capability through coaching, training, and learning experiences. Create self-serve resources, teach formal classes, and facilitate informal groups and events.

Minimum Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree and 6 years of professional work experience (or a master's degree and 3 years of professional work experience, or a PhD degree, or equivalent experience) is required.

Additional Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree related to Engineering, Software Development, or related field(s) is required.

  • Experience as a software developer, test engineer, quality engineer, agile coach, program manager, process improvement practitioner, or similar role supporting software development organizations is required.

  • Demonstrated success leading or facilitating problem-solving, organizational effectiveness, continuous improvement, or change management initiatives is required.

  • Strong communication skills, including clear and concise writing, effective presentation skills, active listening, and the ability to facilitate productive discussions among diverse stakeholder groups, are required.

  • Experience leading cross-functional initiatives and building alignment among stakeholders without direct authority is required.

  • 3+ years of professional work experience preferably in software industry is desirable.
  • Experience developing and delivering learning resources, coaching others, facilitating workshops, or supporting organizational capability-building efforts is desirable.

  • Experience working cross-functionally, especially as a consultant with internal clients or subject matter experts, is a plus.
  • Professional certifications such as Lean Six Sigma Green Belt, Lean Six Sigma Black Belt, Prosci Change Management, Agile Coaching, Scrum Master, or related credentials are a plus.
