QA Engineer - Shopify Platform (Weekday Rotation)

Contractor

Posted 4 days ago

Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a QA Engineer - Shopify Platform (Weekday Rotation) based in Netherlands.

This role is responsible for maintaining the quality, stability, and performance of a high-volume Shopify commerce platform during weekday evening or overnight hours.
You will provide continuous QA coverage across storefront, checkout, subscriptions, payments, themes, and third-party integrations.
The position combines real-time production monitoring with structured manual and automated testing of new releases and platform changes.
You will play a critical role in identifying customer-facing and revenue-impacting issues before they affect the wider business.
Working closely with developers, you will document defects, validate fixes, participate in release reviews, and escalate urgent issues when required.
Because the role operates outside standard daytime hours, strong ownership, independent decision-making, and proactive asynchronous communication are essential.
You will also maintain clear shift handoffs to ensure uninterrupted QA coverage and a consistent view of platform health across the full week.

Accountabilities
  • Monitor the live Shopify storefront throughout the assigned shift, identifying functional bugs, broken experiences, visual regressions, and other issues that could affect customers.
  • Validate deployments, theme updates, Liquid template changes, and third-party app integrations before and after release, including performing smoke tests following production deployments.
  • Execute end-to-end manual and automated regression testing across desktop and mobile experiences, covering checkout, subscriptions, subscription disclosures, discount codes, and payment processing.
  • Write and maintain structured test cases while performing cross-browser and cross-device validation using tools such as BrowserStack.
  • Triage and document defects in ClickUp and GitHub Issues with clear reproduction steps, supporting screenshots or videos, severity classifications, and relevant technical context.
  • Collaborate directly with developers through GitHub issues and pull-request review comments, helping identify potential root causes and validating fixes.
  • Perform targeted checks of third-party Shopify applications to identify conflicts or unexpected behavior and escalate customer-facing or revenue-impacting incidents according to established on-call procedures.
  • Prepare thorough shift handoff notes at the beginning and end of each coverage window so open issues, risks, and priorities are communicated clearly between teams.
  • Respond promptly to automated uptime and platform alerts and maintain reliable coverage throughout the assigned Monday-Friday EST schedule.
Requirements:
  • 5+ years of professional experience in QA, software testing, or a closely related discipline, ideally within a fast-paced agency, e-commerce business, or high-growth direct-to-consumer environment.
  • Strong hands-on knowledge of the Shopify ecosystem, including Shopify Admin, themes, apps, metafields, and storefront architecture.
  • Proficiency with Shopify Liquid and the ability to read and understand template logic to investigate defects and identify potential causes.
  • Practical experience working with GitHub, including branches, pull requests, diffs, issue tracking, and code-review discussions.
  • Solid understanding of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, with enough technical depth to investigate storefront issues and communicate effectively with developers.
  • Experience writing structured manual test cases, conducting regression testing, triaging defects, assigning severity, and validating issues across browsers and devices.
  • Excellent written and spoken English, with the ability to communicate clearly through asynchronous bug reports, handoff documentation, and developer discussions.
  • Strong attention to detail and a rigorous approach to quality, particularly when testing customer-facing and revenue-critical commerce flows.
  • Ability to work independently during evening or overnight hours with minimal supervision, while proactively communicating risks, blockers, and incidents.
  • Experience with subscription commerce platforms such as Recharge, Skio, or Loop is a plus.
  • Familiarity with automated testing frameworks such as Playwright, Cypress, or Selenium is advantageous.
  • Experience with Shopify's theme editor and Online Store 2.0 sections and blocks is beneficial.
  • Exposure to conversion-rate optimization, Core Web Vitals, site-speed monitoring, GA4, or Shopify Analytics is a plus.
Benefits:
  • Full-time contract position with a standard 30-day trial period before permanent confirmation.
  • Choice of a consistent Monday-Friday weekday rotation: 5:00 PM-1:00 AM EST or 1:00 AM-9:00 AM EST.
  • Opportunity to work in a dedicated QA function providing continuous coverage for a Shopify commerce platform.
  • High level of ownership and autonomy, with the opportunity to directly influence storefront reliability, customer experience, and revenue protection.
  • Direct collaboration with senior developers and clear escalation paths for production issues.
  • Structured shift handoffs and asynchronous workflows designed to support continuous operations across coverage windows.
  • Exposure to Shopify, subscription commerce, third-party integrations, release validation, and both manual and automated QA practices.
  • Performance-focused environment centered on rapid experimentation, continuous improvement, and disciplined execution.
  • Inclusive and equal-opportunity working environment where qualified candidates are considered based on their skills and experience.
  • Developer-led production releases, with QA responsible for identifying, documenting, and escalating issues before or after deployment.
