Summary Statement

Senesco Marine, LLC is seeking an experienced Ship Superintendent to oversee all shipyard activities related to vessel construction and commissioning. This role is responsible for the safe, efficient, and compliant execution of shipyard operations from project award through final delivery and commissioning. The Ship Superintendent serves as the primary on-site authority coordinating labor, subcontractors, vendors, classification societies, and owners' representatives to ensure quality, schedule, and budget objectives are met.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Provide leadership for shipyard activities, including new construction, outfitting and installation and commissioning of vessels.

Plan, coordinate daily shipyard operations to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with contractual requirements, drawings, specifications, and regulatory standards.

Act as the point of contact for scheduling with QC surveyors, and classification societies during construction, trials, and commissioning phases.

Ensure compliance with all applicable safety, environmental, and quality standards, including OSHA, USCG, ABS, and company policies.

Daily workforce planning, including coordination of in-house trades, subcontractors, and vendors to meet project schedules and manpower requirements.

Monitor project progress, identify risks, and implement corrective actions to maintain schedule and cost controls.

Review work scopes, communicate needed change orders, and technical documentation to ensure accuracy and alignment with project objectives.

Lead commissioning activities, including dock trials, sea trials, system testing, and final acceptance, ensuring all deficiencies are tracked and resolved.

Coordinate with engineering, purchasing, and project management teams to resolve technical issues and ensure material availability.

Maintain accurate project records, reports, and documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement within the shipyard.

Mentor and develop junior superintendents, foremen, and supervisors as required.


Required Qualifications

Minimum 10 years of progressive experience overseeing shipyard operations, including new construction, repair, and commissioning activities.

Demonstrated experience managing all phases of vessel construction through final delivery and commissioning.

Strong working knowledge of marine systems, shipyard trades, and construction sequencing.

Thorough understanding of regulatory and classification requirements (USCG, ABS, SOLAS, etc.).

Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams in a dynamic shipyard environment.

Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical manuals.

Proficiency with project reporting, scheduling, and basic computer applications.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to work in an active shipyard environment, including climbing ladders, boarding vessels, and working in confined spaces.
  • Ability to work extended hours, including weekends, as project schedules require.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).

Work Demands

  • The employee is required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to respirator, hardhat, face shield, safety goggles, safety shoes (steel toe), safety harness, gloves or other protective clothing as determined by a Senesco Marine Job Hazard Analysis.
  • The employee must report all accidents or injuries to their supervisor and the Environmental Safety and Health Department.
  • The employee must report to their supervisor any and all damages to equipment, or broken and misused tools.
  • The employee may be working in several different areas and environments; this includes work inside and outside of buildings or structures.
  • The employee needs to work at a pace consistent with meeting company deadlines.
