Job description

Location: Ontario Area, CA
Compensation: $95,000–$125,000 base + aggressive commission, depending on experience
Full-Time | Travel Required

A fast-growing Southern California manufacturer of custom electrical power-distribution equipment is seeking an experienced Switchgear Sales Representative to develop new business and expand relationships with electrical contractors, distributors, engineers, data centers, industrial facilities, general contractors, and commercial customers.

This is not a general inside-sales position. We are specifically interested in candidates who understand switchgear, switchboards, panelboards, circuit breakers, electrical distribution equipment, or closely related industrial electrical products and can communicate credibly with technical customers.

The ideal candidate is a self-directed business developer who can prospect, build relationships, identify active projects and RFQs, travel to customers and jobsites, and advance opportunities from initial contact through quotation, purchase order, manufacturing, and delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Develop new business with electrical contractors, distributors, engineers, data centers, industrial customers, general contractors, and other power-distribution buyers.
  • Sell custom switchboards, panelboards, switchgear, and related low-voltage electrical equipment.
  • Identify upcoming projects, bid opportunities, RFQs, replacement-equipment needs, and long-term customer opportunities.
  • Build relationships with estimators, purchasing teams, project managers, engineers, executives, and facility personnel.
  • Conduct outbound prospecting through phone, email, LinkedIn, networking, customer visits, trade shows, referrals, and industry contacts.
  • Review customer RFQs, specifications, panel schedules, bills of material, and single-line diagrams and coordinate requirements with estimating and engineering.
  • Present proposals and communicate manufacturing capabilities, product options, lead times, and project requirements.
  • Maintain disciplined follow-up on quotations and active opportunities.
  • Coordinate closely with estimating, engineering, purchasing, production, and project-management teams.
  • Maintain an accurate sales pipeline and customer activity records.
  • Travel to customer locations, jobsites, industry events, and meetings as required.

What We Are Looking For

  • Prior sales experience with switchgear, switchboards, panelboards, power distribution, electrical equipment, circuit breakers, MCCs, industrial controls, transformers, or closely related products.
  • Demonstrated success developing new accounts and generating business rather than relying exclusively on inherited customers or inbound leads.
  • Experience selling to electrical contractors, distributors, engineers, industrial facilities, data centers, or similar technical customers.
  • Strong understanding of the electrical construction and equipment sales cycle.
  • Ability to manage high-value, project-based sales opportunities.
  • Comfortable reviewing technical specifications, RFQs, BOMs, panel schedules, or single-line diagrams.
  • Strong prospecting, follow-up, negotiation, presentation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Willingness and ability to travel.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

Preferred Experience

  • Direct switchgear or switchboard manufacturer sales experience.
  • Knowledge of UL 891 switchboards and low-voltage power-distribution systems.
  • Familiarity with Siemens, Eaton, Square D/Schneider Electric, ABB, or comparable electrical components.
  • Existing relationships with electrical contractors, distributors, engineers, data-center operators, or industrial customers.
  • Experience selling custom engineered-to-order electrical equipment.

Why Consider This Opportunity?

This is an opportunity to join a rapidly growing manufacturer with significant demand for custom power-distribution equipment and an aggressive growth strategy. The company offers a strong commission opportunity for sales professionals capable of developing meaningful customer relationships and closing high-value projects.

Candidates with direct switchgear or power-distribution sales experience are strongly encouraged to apply, even if current compensation is above the posted range. We are willing to consider exceptional candidates based on experience, relationships, and demonstrated sales performance.
