What does a director of safety and security do?

A Director of Safety and Security is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing policies and procedures that ensure the safety and security of an organization’s employees, assets, and operations. This role often involves risk assessments, emergency preparedness, compliance with laws and regulations, and coordination with law enforcement agencies. The Director may also manage a team of security personnel and provide training to staff on safety protocols. The primary goal is to create a safe environment while minimizing risks to the organization.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a director of safety and security?

To thrive as a Director of Safety and Security, you need in-depth knowledge of safety regulations, risk management, incident response, and typically a degree in criminal justice, safety management, or a related field. Expertise in security systems, emergency management software, and certifications like CPP (Certified Protection Professional) or OSHA are often required.
