What is the difference between Director Robotics Simulator vs Robotics Engineer?

AspectDirector Robotics SimulatorRobotics Engineer
Required CredentialsBachelor's or Master's in Robotics, Computer Science, or related fields; experience in simulation softwareBachelor's or Master's in Robotics, Mechanical Engineering, or related fields; programming skills
Work EnvironmentLeadership in R&D teams, overseeing simulation projectsDesign, develop, and test robotic systems and simulations
Industry UsageUsed in companies developing advanced robotics and simulation toolsHands-on development and implementation of robotic systems

The Director Robotics Simulator focuses on leading simulation projects and managing teams, requiring strategic oversight and industry experience. In contrast, Robotics Engineers are involved in the technical development and testing of robotic systems. Both roles require strong technical backgrounds, but the Director role emphasizes leadership and project management within the robotics simulation domain.

Robotics Consultant - Whole-Body Teleoperation & Control

Integrated Computer Solutions, Inc.

Wilmington, MA • On-site

Contractor

Re-posted 4 days ago

Job description

Position Type: 6-Month Consulting Contract

Location: Wilmington, MA

  • Location/Eligibility: This is a contract position based in Massachusetts.  You must be able to commute to the Wilmington area onsite at least 3 days a week.  For this contract, there is no visa sponsorship available.

The Mission

We are seeking an expert Robotics Consultant for a 6-month engagement to pioneer our Whole-Body Teleoperation framework. Working alongside our core autonomy team, you will bridge the gap between human intent and high-DOF robotic execution. You will be responsible for designing advanced whole-body controllers, developing robust manipulation pipelines, and setting up the simulation-to-real (Sim2Real) infrastructure required to bring a humanoid or high-DOF robot to life.

Core Responsibilities
  • Teleoperation Architecture: Design and implement intuitive, low-latency whole-body teleoperation pipelines for high-DOF robotic systems.

  • Whole-Body Control (WBC): Develop and optimize multi-objective whole-body controllers that balance manipulation accuracy, balance, and dynamic stability.

  • Sim2Real & Reinforcement Learning: Stand up and refine reinforcement learning (RL) pipelines in physics-based simulators, ensuring policies successfully transfer to physical hardware without degradation.

  • Hardware Validation: Deploy, test, and debug control policies on physical platforms, rapidly iterating on live teleoperation performance.

Technical Requirements (Must-Have)
  • Advanced Academic Background: Current PhD student or recent PhD graduate/Postdoc in Robotics, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field.

  • Proven Research Track Record: A strong publication history (e.g., ICRA, IROS, RSS, ToR) directly focused on whole-body manipulation, whole-body control, or teleoperation for humanoids or quadrupeds/manipulators.

  • Simulation Mastery: Proficient in setting up complex simulation environments (e.g., Isaac Sim/Gym, MuJoCo, Drake) for dynamic robotic tasks.

  • Software Competence: Strong programming skills in Python and/or C++ within a Linux development ecosystem.

Preferred Qualifications (Nice-to-Have)
  • Experience with VR-based teleoperation interfaces, haptic feedback devices, or exoskeleton-based human tracking.

  • Direct experience with real-time Linux environments (PREEMPT_RT) and low-level actuator communication loops.

Engagement Details
  • Duration: 6 Months (with the potential for extension).

  • Environment: A high-velocity, R&D lab environment pushing the boundaries of physical AI.
