Description
American Traveler is hiring a Pediatric Pre/Post Op RN for a Level I Trauma Center, requiring ACLS, BLS, PALS certifications and a VA or compact RN license.
Details
- Work in a 10-bed Pediatric PeriAnesthesia Unit with an additional 4-bed Pediatric Surgical Observation Unit (PSOU)
- PSOU provides specialized postoperative care for pediatric patients requiring overnight observation or extended recovery up to 23 hours following surgery
- Night shift, 3x12 hours, 19:00-7:30
- 13-week contract assignment
- Every other weekend and every other holiday required
- Patient ratio of 1:4
- Uses Epic charting system
- Floating required within scope of practice as needed
Requirements
- Active VA or compact RN license required, pending license accepted if in-hand by the Wednesday before start date
- ACLS, BLS, and PALS certifications required
- Minimum 2 years of relevant nursing experience required
- Level I Trauma Center experience required
- Epic charting system experience required
- BSN preferred
- Previous charge nurse experience preferred
- Pediatric pre/post-op and PACU skills including airway assessment, IV therapy, and pain management preferred
- Experience with pre/post-operative care including discharge instructions, medication reconciliation, and 12-lead EKG preferred
Additional Information
- Provide pre- and post-operative nursing care to pediatric surgical patients
- Manage pediatric patients undergoing ENT, general, and orthopedic surgical procedures
- Perform circulation checks, pain assessment, and isolation precautions as part of patient care
- Maximum of 40 hours of RTO approved per 13-week contract, must be disclosed at time of consideration
- Must reside within a 50-mile radius of the facility
- Any pre-start vacation time between sign date and start date must be disclosed to request an appropriate start date
- Previous UVA Health employees (permanent staff or travelers) must have a 1-year separation and leadership approval before returning
- External travelers cannot exceed 365 total assignment days and are not eligible to return after reaching this limit
