Job description

The RF technician is responsible for tuning, testing, and verifying RF filters and oscillators and ensuring they meet the customer’s expectations. The technician will tune various RF filters, including, but not limited to lumped element (LC) filters, crystal, and cavity-based filters and RF oscillators including TCXOs, VCXOs, and OCXOs. The RF technician will also perform various environmental tests to ensure compliance with the customer’s specifications.


Job Duties and Responsibilities:RF Technician I:
  • Able to read and follow procedures exactly as written.
  • Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (2D0-1004) including STEP-C
  • Full understanding of MtronPTI ESD procedures
  • Uses computer and/or manually records data as needed.
  • Performs environmental testing as required which might include the following: vibration, mechanical shock, thermal shock, etc.
  • Takes direction from supervisor and other senior team members.
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by adhering to GMP (good manufacturing practices)
  • Use of hand tools such as torque tools, calipers.
  • Follow safe guidelines for chemical use and storage.
  • Understands and uses leak detection equipment (gross / fine)
  • Maintains safe and clean working areas.
RF Technician II:
  • All functions of RF Technician I
  • Use of various test equipment: Network /spectrum analyzers, frequency counters, mixers, power meters, etc.
  • Tune various RF filters, including, but not limited to lumped element (LC) filters, crystal, and cavity-based filters.
  • Is a basic oscillator set up for frequency and output power SOT components.
  • Able to be self-sufficient in the main work area.
  • Updates tracking boards and various floor queues as needed.
  • Assists in preparing and lining up work for Filter Technician I personnel.
RF Technician III:
  • All functions of RF Technician II
  • Well cross-trained within their department but can also work in other departments within the filter production area.
  • Ability to handle and tune all space level filters and highly difficult (high frequency) to tune models.
  • For oscillator products, does set up on difficult, high frequency devices that might require multiple SOT components.
  • Perform common troubleshooting for oscillator / filter products (i.e. determining incorrect component values, number of turns on coils, etc.)
  • Performs full set ups for various tests including, but not limited to, IM, Phase noise, operation under vibration, etc.
RF Technician IV:
  • All functions of RF Technician III
  • Works with process / design engineering to suggest changes in the process or product to improve throughput, yield, etc.
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting
  • For oscillator products, able to troubleshoot circuits to component level using schematics and various measurement equipment.
  • For filter products, this includes, but is not limited to determining grounding issues, resolving test fixture and test methods, calibration issues, and complex problems with assembly and component values.
  • Periodically checks with peers or line leads to support other functions as needed.
  • Mentor Junior Technicians.
RF Technician V:
  • All functions of RF Technician IV
  • Is recognized as the Subject Matter Expert in their area.
  • Typically, an Area Lead with additional responsibilities of assigning work, inspections, AX transactions and other similar responsibilities as needed or assigned.
  • Trains Junior Technicians.

  • Understanding of electrical and electronic circuits
  • Ability to read and understand electrical schematics.
  • Ability to speak and read English clearly.
  • Able to use computer systems and computer programs.
  • Ability to work well within a team of technicians.
  • Organized and reliable.
  • Accountable for addressing any issues in their cell areas to the supervisor.
  • Understanding of basic tools or testing equipment.
RF Technician II:
  • All skills from RF Technician I
  • Ability to switch tasks between multiple areas as needed.
RF Technician III:
  • All skills from RF Technician II
  • Ability to be easily cross trained in other test/tuning functions.
  • Exceptional communication skills with peers, supervisors, and engineering teams
RF Technician IV:
  • All skills from RF Technician III
  • Complete Mastery of procedures and processes in assigned areas (oscillators and/or filters)
RF Technician V:
  • All skills from RF Technician IV
  • Ability to direct others
  • Computer skills for AX transactions and other data entry requirements
Education, Experience, & Training:RF Technician I:
  • Must be able to work with ITAR data without a license.
  • Basic understanding of electrical and electronic circuits
  • AS degree in electronics or equivalent experience (Military training, etc.)
RF Technician II:
  • One year of technician experience required.
RF Technician III:
  • Two years of technician experience required and mastery of difficult models.
RF Technician IV:
  • 5+ years of technician experience required
RF Technician V:
  • 10+ years of advanced experience required.
Education, Experience, & Training:
  • Some light lifting required
  • Sitting for long periods
  • Squatting or bending
  • Walking around the cell or production floor
  • Must be able to work on ITAR data without a license
  • Must have the ability to obtain a security clearance
