Position Summary
The Director of Indirect Tax is responsible for leading all aspects of indirect tax compliance, reporting, and advisory support for the organization. This role ensures accurate and timely filings across multiple jurisdictions, strengthens internal controls, and maintains effective tax processes that support consistent operational excellence. Partnering closely with Accounting, Finance, Legal, Sales Operations, and other business partners, the Director provides technical expertise on indirect tax matters, manages external advisors, and oversees responses to audits and regulatory changes. This position requires strong technical knowledge, sound judgment, and the ability to guide a team in maintaining a high standard of compliance.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage all indirect tax compliance activities, including sales tax, GST, and use taxforUS states andjurisdictions, Canada, and Puerto Rico
  • Oversee the preparation, review, andtimelyfiling of indirect tax returns and related reporting
  • Maintain and enhance internal controls, process documentation, and compliance procedures
  • Conduct technical research and analyze the impact of indirect tax law changes on the business
  • Partner with crossfunctional teamsincluding Procurement, Accounts Payable, and Accountingto ensureaccuratetaxability determinations for products and services
  • Manage configuration, maintenance, and accuracy of indirect tax automation systems (e.g.,OneSource)
  • Serve as the primary liaison with external tax advisors and tax authorities
  • Manage responses to tax audits, notices, and information requests
  • Provide indirect tax support on business initiatives, system updates, and contract reviews
  • Identifyand implementtax planning opportunities todrive value to CDK
  • Drive process improvement/automation across the organization toincrease efficiency and reduce risk of errors in indirect taxation
  • Mentor and developthe 2indirect tax team members to ensurestrong performanceand professional growth
  • Monitor compliance obligations across existingjurisdictionsand support registration requirements where needed
  • Follow all CDK Global policies and procedures
  • Complete all mandatory assigned compliance tasks and acknowledgements
  • Meet or exceed all performance expectations
  • Hire and train new employees
  • Organize workflow and ensure that employees understand their duties or delegated tasks
  • Set goals for performance,monitoremployee productivity, and provide constructive feedback and coaching
  • Ensure adherence to legal and company policies and procedures and undertake disciplinary actions if the need arises
  • Role model company values and leadership expectations


Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, ora relateddiscipline
  • 10+ years of indirect tax experience with multi-state exposure
  • Strong knowledge of salesand usetax rules applicable to technology and/orservice-basedindustries
  • Demonstrated experience leading indirect tax compliance processes
  • Proficiencywith indirect tax automation platforms (e.g.,OneSource)
  • Strong analytical and technical tax skills, including research and interpretation of complex regulations
  • Excellent communication andcross-functionalcollaboration skills
  • High attention to detail and ability to manage recurring deadlines effectively
  • Strong organizational and project management abilities


Preferred Qualifications and Experience

  • CPA, CMI, JD, orMaster's degree in Taxation
  • Experience with global indirect tax complianceat a SaaS company
  • Familiarity with accounting standards influencing indirect tax (e.g., ASC 450, ASC 606)
  • Experience withoptimizingor implementing tax engines or ERP integrations
  • Exposure to M&A due diligence and integration considerations related to indirect taxes

Salary Range: $195,000 - $210,000
