Job description

WMYD Detroit is seeking an experienced and innovative Game Producer, Sports to oversee the entire live production of sports events and game telecasts from concept to execution. This role is responsible for managing production teams, coordinating logistics and content, and ensuring every broadcast delivers a high-quality, engaging viewing experience for audiences across television and digital platforms.

The ideal candidate is a strategic production leader with exceptional editorial judgment, strong sports knowledge, and the ability to manage complex live broadcasts while maintaining the highest standards of storytelling, production quality, and operational excellence.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Develop and implement strategic content plans for sports broadcasts, game telecasts, and related programming.
  • Manage a team of producers, editors, and other production staff to deliver compelling live and recorded sports content.
  • Make high-level editorial decisions and approve final content to ensure storytelling, accuracy, and quality standards are met.
  • Coordinate with network executives, sponsors, league partners, and key stakeholders to align production objectives and deliverables.
  • Innovate and introduce new concepts, segments, storytelling approaches, and production techniques that enhance viewer engagement.
  • Ensure the highest standards of production quality and compliance with network policies, FCC regulations, and company guidelines.
  • Collaborate closely with directors, on-air talent, producers, technical teams, and operations staff to develop programming rundowns, camera plans, graphics, replay elements, and overall game coverage.
  • Communicate effectively with control room personnel, engineering teams, and production departments to execute seamless, high-quality broadcasts.
  • Oversee production staff including assistant producers, field producers, graphics operators, and other game production personnel.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical, operational, and production issues during live events and broadcasts.
  • Partner with production managers to coordinate schedules, equipment, staffing, travel, and logistical requirements for game productions.
  • Stay informed on the latest sports news, league developments, rules, analytics, and industry trends to ensure coverage remains relevant and impactful.
  • Provide creative oversight and strategic input on the overall presentation, look, feel, and execution of game broadcasts.
  • Serve as a production lead and mentor for junior production team members.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

  • Bachelor's degree in broadcasting, communications, journalism, television production, sports media, or a related discipline preferred, or equivalent years of experience.
  • Generally, 8+ years of experience in sports broadcasting, live television production, sports production, or a related field preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience producing live sports broadcasts and large-scale game telecasts.
  • Experience leading cross-functional production teams in a fast-paced live environment.
  • Strong understanding of live broadcast workflows, content development, editorial decision-making, and production operations.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and non-traditional schedules as required by live sports programming.
