About the Opportunity
Our client, an established acute-care hospital and healthcare system, is seeking an experienced Director of Risk Management to lead its risk management program across the hospital and affiliated clinics.
This role is responsible for identifying and mitigating organizational risk, supporting litigation and claims management, advising leadership and providers on risk-related matters, and promoting a strong culture of compliance and patient safety. The Director will also serve as the facility's Compliance and Ethics Officer.
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic leadership for the hospital's Quality, Risk Management, and Medical Staff functions.
  • Lead the organization's overall risk management program, including risk identification, mitigation, and patient safety initiatives.
  • Investigate incidents and collaborate with leadership, providers, staff, and other stakeholders to identify trends and implement corrective actions.
  • Support potential and active litigation, including investigations, interviews, depositions, legal holds, and coordination with legal counsel.
  • Advise leadership and providers on informed consent, documentation standards, disclosure practices, and professional liability exposure.
  • Oversee professional liability, general liability, and property claims management activities.
  • Lead quality improvement initiatives, performance improvement programs, and regulatory readiness activities.
  • Develop and monitor departmental goals, standards, performance metrics, and quality and risk outcomes.
  • Oversee audits, compliance monitoring, and other activities designed to maintain regulatory and organizational compliance.
  • Support medical staff functions, including medical staff processes, credentialing, and medical staff-related risk activities.
  • Provide risk management, quality, compliance, and patient safety education and training to leaders, providers, and hospital staff.
  • Serve as the facility's Compliance and Ethics Officer and support organizational compliance initiatives.
  • Partner with clinical and executive leadership to strengthen patient care quality, safety, compliance, and risk management practices.
  • Manage departmental staffing, budgeting, operational performance, and professional development.
Qualifications
  • Active New Mexico RN license or multistate RN license.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited nursing program.
  • At least 5 years of nursing experience, including at least 3 years in management or director-level leadership.
  • Demonstrated experience in healthcare risk management, quality, and medical staff functions.
  • Acute-care healthcare risk management experience preferred; this experience may substitute for the management/director-level leadership requirement.
  • Experience in a for-profit hospital strongly preferred.
  • Prior Director-level experience preferred.
  • CPHRM certification preferred upon hire and required within 3 years of employment.
