Job description

Director of Pharmacy - Community Hospital

Location: Marshall, MI

Specialty Medical Staffing is seeking an experienced Director of Pharmacy to lead pharmacy operations for a community hospital in the Marshall, MI area. This interim leadership position offers the opportunity to make an immediate impact by strengthening pharmacy operations, supporting staff development, and ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality patient care.

The ideal candidate will bring strong inpatient hospital experience, proven leadership abilities, and a collaborative management style to help guide an established pharmacy team through a period of transition.

Assignment Details

Start: ASAP (As early as the week of July 27, 2026)

Duration: Until Permanent Hire (3+ Months Expected)

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 40 Hours Per Week

Weekend Coverage: Occasional, as needed

On-Call: Possible, based on departmental needs

Requirements
  • Active Michigan Pharmacist License in good standing
  • Previous Director of Pharmacy, PIC, or pharmacy leadership experience preferred
  • Recent inpatient hospital pharmacy experience required
  • General knowledge of sterile and hazardous compounding (USP <797> and USP <800>)
  • Cerner and Pyxis experience preferred (training available)
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
Responsibilities
  • Lead day-to-day pharmacy operations while serving as Pharmacist-in-Charge (PIC)
  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and accountability for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians
  • Assist with pharmacy staffing and operational coverage as needed
  • Oversee regulatory compliance, quality initiatives, and departmental performance
  • Support financial management, budgeting, and operational planning
  • Supervise sterile compounding operations and ensure compliance with USP <797> and USP <800> standards
  • Partner with hospital leadership to strengthen pharmacy services and assist with recruitment efforts
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient care
