Job description

Own the Products That Shape the Future of HVACR Tools

Fieldpiece is the innovation leader in professional HVACR tools and test instruments, trusted by technicians around the world to solve complex challenges every day. We're investing aggressively in product innovation, connected technologies, AI-enabled solutions, and world-class product development capabilities. Our mission is to become the industry's leading technician productivity company by creating products and services that help HVACR technicians work smarter, faster, and with greater confidence. If you're passionate about understanding customers, defining strategy, and building products that shape an industry, there's no better place to make an impact.

Why This Role?

Great products start with a deep understanding of customers - and great product leaders know how to turn those insights into products that define a market.

As a Product Category Director, you'll own the strategy, vision, and long-term of your product portfolio. You'll spend time understanding HVACR technicians, contractors, distributors, and market trends, and translate those insights into product strategies, innovation roadmaps, and business decisions that shape the future of the category.

Working across Engineering, Industrial Design, Program Management, Marketing, Sales, and Operations, you'll influence everything from product concepts and investment decisions to commercialization and lifecycle management. If you enjoy thinking strategically, solving customer problems, and bringing innovative products to market, this is your opportunity.

This position is in our Park City, UT office with an exciting move to Heber City, UT in 2027.  This role follows a hybrid work schedule, with employees typically working onsite three days per week. Additional in-office days may be required from time to time for onboarding, training, team meetings, project collaboration, or other business needs.

What You'll Do

  • Own the strategy, roadmap, and business performance of a strategic product portfolio.
  • Develop deep customer and market insights that identify new opportunities for growth.
  • Define product vision, positioning, and long-term innovation roadmaps.
  • Partner with Engineering, Program Management, Industrial Design, Sales, Marketing, and Operations to bring new products to market.
  • Build business cases and guide investment decisions for future products.
  • Lead Voice of Customer initiatives and translate customer insights into differentiated solutions.
  • Monitor market trends, competitive activity, and product performance to drive continuous portfolio success.

What Makes This Opportunity Different

  • Own one of the industry's most respected HVACR tool product portfolios.
  • Define the future of technician productivity and shape the products they use.
  • Lead strategy across connected hardware, software, and AI-enabled solutions.
  • Influence executive investment decisions and long-term technology strategy.
  • Collaborate with world-class Product, Engineering, Design, and Innovation teams.

In Your First Year, You Will:

  • Become the recognized business leader for your product category – understanding your customers, competitors, and market opportunities.
  • Establish trusted relationships with internal and external teams in every function that leads to the definition, development and success launch of new products.
  • Define and refine your multi-year product roadmap aligned with company strategy.
  • Lead product initiatives from concept through commercialization.
  • Deliver actionable customer insights that influence future investment decisions.

What You Bring

  • A bachelor’s degree in engineering or another STEM-related field
  • 5+ years of leadership experience in Product Management, Engineering, Program Management, or a related product development role.
  • A proven ability to lead products through the full lifecycle - from concept and strategy to launch and continuous improvement – for global markets.
  • Experience balancing feature prioritization, roadmap ownership, and product investment decisions across multiple stakeholders.
  • Strong business acumen with experience developing product strategies, building business cases, prioritizing roadmaps, and guiding investment decisions.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to simplify complex challenges into practical, customer-focused solutions.
  • Experience influencing cross-functional teams and driving alignment.
  • Strong customer engagement skills with the ability to translate Voice of Customer insights into product opportunities and priorities.
  • Strong technical fluency and confidence collaborating with engineering teams on product design, features, and technical trade-offs.
  • Outstanding communication, presentation, negotiation, and facilitation skills.
  • An entrepreneurial mindset with curiosity, initiative, and a hands-on approach to solving problems.
  • Willingness to travel up to 30% domestically and internationally to meet with customers and manufacturing partners.

Bonus Points If You Have

  • An MBA or other advanced business or technical degree.
  • Experience in the HVACR, tools, instrumentation, or adjacent industrial product industries.

Why You'll Enjoy Working at Fieldpiece

  • As a privately held company, we invest for the long term—in our people, our products, and our future. That means we can focus on innovation, continuous improvement, and building lasting careers rather than chasing short-term results.
  • Work alongside talented, collaborative teammates who are passionate about innovation and solving real world problems.
