Senior Developer, BI Reporting (Aderant Developer)

The Senior Developer, BI Reporting, will lead various analysis and programming initiatives in Cornerstone Research's Software Engineering department utilizing a high degree of knowledge in the overall field of business analysis and financial reporting. They will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining advanced reporting solutions using Microsoft Power BI, SQL Server, Data Warehouse and upcoming BI technologies. This role requires specialized experience with Aderant applications and a strong understanding of financial and operational data within a professional services or legal environment. They will collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver data-driven insights that support strategic decision-making, operational efficiency, and financial transparency.

How You'll Help Our Team Succeed:
  • Works with the Finance department and IT Reporting team in developing Cornerstone's reporting strategy to determine scalable and appropriate solutions for the variety of financial and analytical reporting requests.
  • Develops and supports Aderant and related applications including Expert Time, Expert GL, Expert Billing, and Prebill Manager.
  • Maintains the financial systems, including the time and accounting system, payroll, fixed assets, budgeting, and financial reporting systems.
  • Participates in month-end accounting system close, and reporting and balancing.
  • Customizes reports and the user interface in Aderant Expert, including advanced scripting in Summit Basic, using the customization tools in Aderant Expert.
  • Integrates data from Aderant modules (e.g., Time & Billing, General Ledger, Matter Management) into Power BI using best practices.
  • Creates, compiles, and prepares management reports, graphs, and charts, including highly complex internally developed custom reports utilizing TSQL, Excel, Access, VBA, Power BI and SSRS.
  • Influences department processes, procedures, and strategy while driving employee development and collaborating with cross-functional teams.
  • Develops and maintains Power BI dashboards and reports using data from Aderant and other enterprise systems.
  • Translates business requirements into technical specifications and reporting solutions.
  • Optimizes data models and DAX queries for performance and usability.
  • Ensures data accuracy, consistency, and compliance with governance standards.
  • Documents report logic, data flows, and provides user support as needed.
  • Maintains and improves reporting data infrastructure which contains data compiled from several enterprise systems. This includes troubleshooting issues and anomalies in system data, data validation, and maintaining system continuity.
  • Assists financial system users to improve efficiency, data integrity, and ease of use.
  • Maintains data integration between systems, creating automated data feeds, and structuring data for use by the data warehouse.

What You'll Need to Be Successful:
  • Strategic 8+ years of experience in IT or financial systems reporting.
  • 8+ years of experience with SQL and T-SQL programming.
  • 5+ years of experience working with Aderant and related applications.
  • 3+ years of experience in Power BI development and administration.
  • 5+ years of experience with Datawarehouse technologies.
  • 3+ years of experience working with and translating company financial data into executive-level reports and KPIs.
  • Advanced MS Office skills - especially Excel, including macro development and troubleshooting.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and techniques.
  • Ability to identify opportunities and propose solutions.
  • Ability to utilize IT Best Practices and IT tools related to application development, implementation, and documentation.
  • Thorough understanding of complex data models for Financial and related business systems along with underlying associated processes.
  • Strong understanding of relational database structures, advanced data concepts, theories, principles, and practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to communicate technical information to technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the firm.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field, or equivalent combination of education, skills, and experience.
  • Professional credential or certification in a relevant field.

Base Salary Range:
Boston: $136,800 - $166,700
Chicago: $129,700 - $157,900
Los Angeles: $135,900 - $165,500
New York: $139,200 - $169,500
San Francisco: $149,200 - $181,700
Washington, DC: $134,300 - $163,600
Individual base compensation will be tailored to your primary work location and the unique depth of experience you bring to the firm.
  • Annual Performance Bonus: This role is eligible for a discretionary bonus with a target of 12.5%. This serves as a meaningful way for us to celebrate excellence, awarded based on both individual impact and our collective success as a firm.
