DescriptionGeneral Statement Of DutiesPerforms professional nursing services for children birth to 21 years of age. Coordinates as requested all clinical aspects of the nursing department. Provides nursing services to Senior Day Hab individuals we support. Performs related work as requested.DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF CLASS

Under the general supervision of the Assistant Director, an employee of this class performs nursing services which include basic first aid, medication administration, evaluation of nursing care needs, chairs the site health and safety committee and provides clinical supervision of the nursing staff.

ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK

Performing the following tasks may place you at risk for acquiring Hepatitis B virus.

  • Oversees and carries out treatment plans as described
  • Pours and administers medication as prescribed
  • Ensures that authoritative and recent antidote information and the phone number of the
  • Regional Poison Control Center is prominently displayed
  • Maintains tuberculosis and statement of medical condition for staff and students
  • Advises the Assistant Director of any medical issues
  • Ensures an emergency medical kit is always available
  • Maintains, requisitions and updates medical records, logs, equipment and supplies
  • Provides basic first aid, assess need for further treatment and makes referrals
  • Assists in medical follow-up with Pediatric, Orthopedic and or Gastroenterology consults
  • Maintains records of licenses, worker's compensation and liability insurance and TB screening of Private Duty Nurses (PDNS)
  • Tracks medication/treatment regimens for students with PDNS
  • Provides assistance to PDNS as needed
  • Responsible for scheduling and assigning nursing treatments
  • Trains nursing staff in appropriate nursing techniques and practice
  • Positions and transfers students as necessary
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of nursing
  • Knowledge of Children's Services goals and objectives
  • Ability to establish good working relationships and to participate effectively as a team member
  • Ability to follow physicians orders precisely and determine if additional consultation is required
  • Ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner
  • Ability to complete work in a timely and thorough manner
  • Provide clinical supervision to nursing department
  • Knowledge of proper body mechanics and transfer techniques.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Graduation from a recognized school of nursing and is licensed and currently registered as a registered Nurse by the New York State Department of Education. Readiness to learn and utilize relevant agency computer applications.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Candidate must possess a valid NYS Driver's License at the time of hire, must maintain the NYS license for the duration of employment, and if they were to drive their own vehicle on Agency business, adhere to the Agency Fleet Safety Driver's Policy/Procedures.
  • Documentation of a current Mantoux tuberculosis test must be provided prior to beginning employment and annually thereafter.
  • A candidate for this position is considered to have regular and substantial unsupervised or unrestricted physical contact with consumers and must undergo a criminal background check prior to assuming their job responsibilities.
  • A minimum of 15 hours of staff development training is required annually.
  • As part of an ongoing agency initiative, AHRC Suffolk has partnered with CQL to perform Personal Outcome conversations with the men and women we support. As part of this initiative, all staff may be required to complete training in order to contribute as interviewers, as follow-up staff, and/or as interpreters when interviews are being conducted.
