Job description

Winsert is seeking qualified candidates for a Plant Operations Manager in South Bend, IN!
This vacancy will be located at a production machine shop that utilizes CNC equipment to support close tolerance and complex components. CNC equipment consists of horizontal milling, 5th axis milling, mill/turn and lathe styles ranging in capabilities.
The Plant Operations Manager is the primary leader of the South Bend operations team and is responsible for managing the production team, budgets, capital expenses, optimizing plant efficiency, ensuring manufacturing plans and production schedules are met, establishing and enforcing safety protocols and quality standards.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Play an active role in the development and implementation of the site’s strategic plan and annual business plan.
  • Collaborate with corporate leadership on long-range operating goals, expansion efforts, and implementation of new and advanced technology.
  • Develop manufacturing plans and schedules that maximize resources (people, equipment, facilities, and materials) efficiency and minimize overhead costs.
  • Identify manufacturing and organizational procedures to be optimized and implement effective changes to increase overall profitability through a continuous improvement culture.
  • Assure production schedules are met to fulfill forecasted market demand.
  • Regularly review actual performance against operating plans and standards, provide direct reports with results and if necessary, changes in plans.
  • Ensure the structure and staffing of the manufacturing departments is adequate to meet organizational objectives.
  • Establish and monitor goals and performance metrics at the plant, departmental, and individual levels.
  • Coordinate with Human Resources to recruit new talent, monitor performance, and formulate training and incentive plans for functional areas.
  • Promote a healthy and safe manufacturing environment that complies with or exceeds federal and state regulations.
  • Be a champion of the Winsert Code of Conduct.
  • Coordinate effectively with corporate Quality, Procurement and Leadership Teams.
SECONDARY JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Conduct performance reviews of all direct reports and administer corrective actions when performance standards are not met.
  • Oversee functional department meetings and be their representative with the corporate operational leadership team.
  • Comply with all environmental, OSHA and quality standards.
  • Participate in customer and regulatory audits as needed.
  • Interact with corporate, Marinette operations personnel and customers as needed.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Leadership skills to drive initiatives while having diplomacy to handle daily issues.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to convey expectations to team.
  • Ability to multi-task in a results-oriented team-based environment.
  • Excellent analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
  • Independent decision-making ability to direct operational functions.
  • Proficient knowledge of Lean Manufacturing techniques.
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with ERP software.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Must be able to actively move through production space to work with staff
  • Vision must be correctable to allow reading/viewing of documents and computer screen
  • Hearing must be correctable to allow understanding of instructions and communication with others
  • Mobility and coordination must allow for required tasks to be completed.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or a relevant field of study preferred.
  • 10+ years progressive manufacturing with machining focus and leadership experience required.
  • Formal 6-sigma, Kaizen, JIT, or other Lean training preferred.
  • Proven track record of high-quality results achieved through ongoing cost improvement, process innovation, capacity management and customer focus.
