Job description

Sun City Hilton Head, located in Bluffton, SC, is pleased to announce an excellent career opportunity for a Director of Golf! We are seeking a driven individual who is eager to learn, contribute, and grow within a fastpaced hospitality-focused property organization. As part ofTroon, you’ll contribute to a global leader in golf and community management. 
 
Compensation: $150,000 - $160,000 annually, based on experience
 
General Purpose:
The Director of Golf oversees all aspects of Golf Operations at Sun City Hilton Head, a multi-course private residential community, including its activities and relationships between residents, associates and the community board. This position has the ultimate responsibility for maximum resident satisfaction and financial performance across all three courses. 
 
Essential Duties:
  • Develops, implements, and monitors the annual budget, revenue goals, and expenses for the golf operations department across all three courses.
  • Provides timely and accurate reporting of all financial and non-financial information as directed, requested, or required by Troon Golf management, the community General Manager, or the community board.
  • Monitors monthly and other financial reports/statements on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis for the facility and takes effective corrective action when necessary.
  • Develops, maintains, and administers sound organizational plans and initiates improvements as necessary.
  • Maintains membership with the PGA and other professional associations; attends workshops and meetings to keep abreast of current information and developments.
  • Oversees the care, maintenance, and agronomic condition of all golf facilities' physical assets, working closely with Golf Maintenance Operations and Agronomy leadership on course recovery and long-term conditioning.
  • Coordinates marketing and membership programs designed to promote the community's golf services to residents.
  • Implements policies and procedures for the Golf and Maintenance Departments, including compliance with all company standards relating to quality of products and services.
  • Responsible for interviewing, hiring, training, planning, assigning, and directing work; evaluating performance; rewarding and disciplining associates; and addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Manages department members that may include, but are not limited to: Head Professional, Tournament Coordinator, Golf Services Manager, Superintendent(s), and Retail Manager.
  • Assures that effective orientation and training are given to each new associate; develops ongoing training programs and provides leadership and vision to golf staff, building people and preparing them for career advancement.
  • Creates a member service-oriented atmosphere that promotes the game of golf and meets the needs of residents across all three courses.
  • Maintains a thorough understanding of course rotation and tee time arrangement across a multi-course operation.
  • Conducts weekly staff meetings and maintains regular and reliable attendance.
Education/Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree (BA); or four to six years of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Multi-course facilities, such as Sun City Hilton Head's three-course operation, require demonstrated experience managing golf operations across multiple courses. 
Qualifications:
  • Class A member of the PGA of America or LPGA in good standing.
  • Strong business acumen with demonstrated financial and operational management skills.
  • Successful completion of a recognized Golf Management/Operations program preferred.
  • Experience across a diversity of golf course operations (private, resort, and/or semi-private), with private residential community experience strongly preferred.
  • Thorough understanding of the golf retail industry.
  • Must be polished and professional with excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience communicating with a resident board and community leadership.
  • A demonstrated passion for member and guest service and exceeding expectations.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office, tee time reservation systems, POS, retail inventory management, and familiarity with web-based golf partners.
Certificates/Licenses:
  • Class A member of the PGA of America or LPGA. 
Physical Demands:
  • Regularly stands, walks, and sits; uses hands; reaches with hands and arms; talks and hears.
  • Frequently tastes or smells.
  • Occasionally climbs or balances; stoops, kneels, crouches, or crawls.
  • Occasionally lifts up to 50 pounds. 
Environment/Noise:
  • Frequently works in outdoor weather conditions.
  • Occasionally works in wet or humid conditions (non-weather).
  • Noise level is moderate. 
Job Knowledge, Skill, and Ability Preferences:
  • Ability to read and speak English is required in order to perform the duties of the job (e.g., associates are required to communicate with English-speaking customers or co-workers; equipment manuals are in English).
  • Thorough understanding of course rotation and tee time arrangement across multiple courses.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and experience with computerized POS and tee time systems.
