About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Packaging Engineer with an industrial manufacturing bckgrnd to join the Process Engineering Packaging team. This individual will support the development of component packaging for New Product Introduction (NPI) projects, driving the identification, development, and commercialization of innovative, cost-effective packaging solutions.

In addition to NPI packaging development, this role will take ownership of existing production-level General Availability packaging systems, conducting root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions to address packaging-related field quality issues. The Packaging Engineer will collaborate closely with suppliers, packaging vendors, logistics partners, and cross-functional teams to ensure packaging performance, quality, and efficiency throughout the product lifecycle.

Responsibilities
  • Manage the development of packaging concepts with preferred packaging vendors and component suppliers.
  • Coordinate packaging performance testing, qualification, and validation activities in accordance with ISTA standards.
  • Plan and direct packaging design and development activities by analyzing engineering drawings, product specifications, handling requirements, and safety considerations.
  • Develop packaging sketches, specifications, samples, and supporting analyses for cross-functional design reviews and approvals.
  • Optimize trailer loading configurations to maximize transportation and cube utilization efficiency.
  • Create, update, and maintain packaging-specific part numbers within the PLM system.
  • Collect Packaging Data Sheets (PDS) from component suppliers.
  • Create and manage supplier packaging databases.
  • Support commercialization of new packaging solutions while improving existing packaging systems.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for packaging-related quality concerns.

MUST HAVES

  • Bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering.
  • 3-5+ years of packaging engineering experience.
  • Structural packaging design experience.
  • Strong proficiency in SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
  • Experience with packaging materials, packaging systems, and industrial packaging applications.
  • Experience with ISTA testing, validation, and compliance.
  • Ability to develop, review, and implement Packaging SOPs and Work Instructions.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.

NICE TO HAVES

  • Knowledge of transportation and logistics principles.
  • Experience with palletizing and trailer-loading software (TOPS, CAPE, EasyCargo).
  • Familiarity with Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodologies.
  • Experience with sustainability software such as Compass (Trayak).
  • Knowledge of ASTM packaging test standards.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $45.00/hr.
