What You'll Do

As a Direct Support Professional (DSP), you will:

  • Provide compassionate support to individuals with intellectual, developmental, and behavioral health needs in a residential setting.
  • Assist individuals with activities of daily living including personal hygiene, grooming, dressing, meal preparation, housekeeping, laundry, and community participation.
  • Promote independence, self-determination, and achievement of individualized goals and outcomes.
  • Develop supportive relationships while encouraging community involvement, socialization, and relationship building.
  • Transport individuals to medical appointments, community activities, religious services, family visits, employment programs, and recreational activities.
  • Implement Individual Support Plans (ISP), Individual Habilitation Plans (IHP), behavior support plans, and other person-centered services.
  • Administer medications and carry out prescribed healthcare programs in accordance with agency policies and procedures.
  • Monitor health, safety, behavioral, and emotional well-being while responding appropriately to crises and emergencies.
  • Complete required documentation including daily logs, medication records, incident reports, goal tracking, behavior data, and other required paperwork.
  • Maintain a safe, supportive, trauma-informed, and person-centered environment that promotes dignity and respect.
  • Assist with licensing requirements, inspections, fire drills, agency compliance activities, and home operations.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to ensure individuals receive comprehensive care and support.

QualificationsRequired:
  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent certificate.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • CPI training or ability to complete CPI training prior to starting in the home.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to successfully complete and maintain CPR, First Aid, and all required trainings.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office, email, and electronic documentation systems.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed care and person-centered supports.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in residential and community settings.
  • Ability to meet all required screenings, including criminal background checks, drug screening, CARI, Central Registry, and other regulatory requirements.
Preferred:
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Human Services or a related field.
  • Six months to one year of experience supporting individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities or within the human services field.
Schedule
  • Part-Time Weekend Position
  • Saturday & Sunday, 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM
  • Additional hours may be available based on program needs
  • Flexibility to assist with coverage, trainings, and emergency situations as needed
  • Participation in on-call and emergency support may be required
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift more than 50 pounds as needed.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, stoop, twist, climb stairs, and assist individuals with daily activities.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods, drive agency vehicles, and transport individuals safely.
  • Ability to work in residential homes and community settings throughout New Jersey.
  • Ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
