Summary
Based at our Portland, OR headquarters, the Senior Director, Head of Marketing is responsible for leading a cohesive and uniquely-Stumptown brand and marketing strategy to drive awareness, profitable sales growth and customer acquisition across our omni-channel business. This position will work in a highly collaborative environment across the business and will require an artful blend of quantitative, data-driven decision making with intuition, humor and a healthy irreverence for tradition and 'the norm.'
This role drives the creation and execution of Marketing Plans in support of Stumptown's overall brand experience, including but not limited to advertising, social media, PR, Communications, promotions, partnerships, collaborations, creative, events and activations in support of our Retail Cafes, Stumptowncoffee.com, and Sales Channels (CPG, Airlines, Restaurants, Hotels, etc.). This role leads our E-Commerce, Marketing and Creative teams Additionally, this role drives Stumptown Product Innovation in alignment with the broader Coffee Operating Unit (COU), ensuring new product launches and SKU assortment supports channel requirements and adds value to the Stumptown offering.
This role reports to the Vice President, General Manager of Stumptown, with dotted line connection into the North American Marketing & Innovation teams. This role is a member of the Stumptown Senior Leadership Team, within the Peet's vertical of the Keurig Dr Pepper North America Coffee Operating Unit. The Head of Marketing is further supported by a Creative Director, Product and Innovation Director, E-Commerce Director, and 6-8 marketing professionals. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual to further grow Stumptown's leadership position within the super premium coffee industry.
Essential Functions
  • Brand Leadership
    • Serve as a passionate advocate and guardian of Stumptown brand equity.
    • Develop and execute the brand positioning, ensuring the brand's super premium position, while remaining relevant and continuing to evolve.
  • Marketing Strategy & Planning
    • Lead the marketing strategy, consumer insights and marketing plan initiatives to drive ROI.
    • Work cross-functionally to present a cohesive and compelling brand experience to our target consumer that drives awareness, engagement, acquisition, traffic and sales.
    • Build out integrated marketing plans, leveraging consumer and channel insights, digital platforms, promotions, website, PR and creative content development and storytelling.
  • Consumer Communications including PR and Social Media
    • Oversee consumer communications across all channels including social media marketing, community growth and influencer outreach.
    • Serve as a steward to guide Stumptown's social impact and engage our community.
  • Strategic Partnerships & Collaborations
    • Drive brand awareness through relevant partnership and brand collaboration opportunities.
  • Consumer Insights
    • Increase the integration of the voice of the consumer and customer into the business. Initiate consumer research as needed and leverage all available 3rd party research.
    • Track critical brand & competitive KPIs.
  • eCommerce & Subscriptions
    • Oversee the customer experience on our website to grow traffic, conversion and retention.
    • Drive the ROI of digital marketing and implement site conversion improvements leveraging resources collaboratively within the broader organization.
  • Product Innovation
    • Lead the new product stage gate review process, introducing new formats and innovation across coffee beans and cold brew. Collaborate with channel leaders to maximize sales.
    • Develop business plans; Track and measure results.
  • Financials
    • Full P&L responsibility for the E-Commerce channels. Own and manage annual marketing budgets.
  • Team Leadership & Development
    • Thoughtfully lead, build and inspire a team of passionate marketers and brand creators.

Supervisory Responsibilities
This position manages a team of marketing, e-commerce, creative and product professionals and external relationships.
Qualifications
  • 10+ years of brand leadership experience in a multi-channel environment including CPG & Retail.
  • Craft beverage or coffee experience preferred; Premium brand experience strongly preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Business or a related field; MBA preferred.
  • A strong commercial mindset and proven track record of driving growth and profitability.
  • Demonstrated analytical, creative, collaborative and strategic thinking delivering brand-building results
  • Experience building digital strategies and campaigns with relevant KPIs.
  • Experience managing creative teams as well as external agencies, able to balance timelines across multiple stakeholders and effectively lead in a matrix environment.
  • Passionate and knowledgeable about consumers, trends, social scenes, emerging talent and platforms to keep our brand relevant, relatable and aspirational with consumers.
  • Exceptional communication skills; able to communicate with internal, external and public audiences.

Work Environment and Physical Demands
  • Work takes place in office settings; this position is based at our HQ in Portland, Oregon and will spend, on average, half of their time working in the office and half of their time working from home.
  • Ability to sit continuously at a computer.
  • Carry weight, lift - lift up to 5 pounds frequently and up to 25 pounds occasionally.
  • Occasional travel ~10%.

Pay Transparency & Benefits:
The target base compensation for this position can range from $175,000 and $225,000, plus bonus potential.
