Location: Yankton, SD

Full-Time | On-Site

At Explorers Credit Union, we believe in financial empowerment and meaningful connections. We’re looking for a Director of Marketing to lead the strategy, storytelling, and execution behind our brand and growth initiatives.

This is a high-impact, hands-on role where you will operate as a department of one (Delegating graphic design to outside company), owning everything from big-picture strategy to day-to-day execution. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, is highly self-directed, and enjoys turning ideas into action.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop and execute short- and long-term marketing strategies aligned with the credit union’s strategic plan and growth objectives.
  • Own and execute all marketing efforts, including brand management, creative development, advertising, digital marketing, social media, website content, and campaign implementation.
  • Balance strategic planning with hands-on execution—creating content, launching campaigns, and managing projects independently.
  • Manage a full pipeline of marketing initiatives simultaneously in a high-volume, deadline-driven environment.
  • Manage to an annual marketing budget.
  • Oversee internal and external communications, including corporate messaging and public relations.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership, management, and staff to identify marketing needs and deliver impactful campaigns.
  • Monitor market trends and campaign performance, using data to refine and improve results.
  • Manage relationships with external vendors, partners, and community organizations.
  • Lead product launches, promotions, financial education initiatives, and community outreach efforts.
  • Coordinate events, sponsorships, scholarships, and donation programs that enhance community presence.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations to leadership, the Board of Directors, and community audiences.
  • Participate in special projects and perform other duties as assigned.

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, business, or a related field required (or equivalent experience).
  • 3–5 years of marketing experience with a proven ability to develop and execute multi-channel strategies.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage a full marketing function without direct reports.
  • Strong ability to prioritize, adapt, and execute under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience across digital, social, print, and content marketing platforms.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to evaluate performance metrics and adjust strategies accordingly.
  • Experience working with vendors, agencies, and cross-functional teams.
  • Proficiency with marketing tools and platforms; experience with WordPress preferred.
  • Knowledge of financial services marketing is a plus.
  • High level of professionalism, integrity, accountability, and confidentiality.
