Job Description

At PDK the Director of Software Engineering is responsible for leading software teams that develop and maintain our mobile, cloud and edge platforms. They manage hiring, set coding standards, oversee architecture, quality and ensure on‑time delivery across multiple teams or projects.

Ideal candidates will have prior hands‑on experience mentoring engineering managers, technical leads and working with Product to align engineering priorities and roadmaps. Knowledge of cloud platform architecture and construction in a Kubernetes environment is essential. Familiarity with physical access control or security products is preferred.

Key Responsibilities
  • Overseeing all phases of the software development life cycle with a focus on maintaining a mature CI/CD pipeline for timely and high quality product deliveries
  • Managing and mentoring software engineers, technical leads
  • Defining development processes, coding standards and review protocols
  • Leading hiring, performance management and team growth
  • Stay current with emerging technologies to enhance product performance and cost‑efficiency
  • Evaluates tools, platforms and infrastructure needs in an increasingly globalized environment.
  • Support DevOps, QA and cross functional collaboration
  • Ensure engineering ceremonies such as retrospectives and planning are effectively conducted.
  • Drive failure analysis, root cause investigations, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Coordinate with leadership responsible for hardware and embedded systems development.
  • Reports on delivery velocity, technical risk and progress to leadership
  • Manage technical risk and debt levels
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements (SOC2, GDPR, etc)
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
  • 10+ years experience software engineering leadership
  • 4+ years experience in a senior leadership role
  • Strong technical background in enterprise software architecture, cloud-based platforms and modern development languages and databases (Postgres, MongoDB, Javascript/Typescript)
  • Experience in building and maintaining a sophisticated web application with integrated purchasing and subscription management.
  • Prior experience overseeing cloud microservice environments run under Kubernetes
  • Ability to align technical delivery with Product and business goals
  • Confidence in managing people, performance and engineering culture
  • Experience with budgeting, hiring and resource planning
  • Strong communication skills, written and verbal for working with stakeholders and leadership
  • Prior experience working in a startup or rapidly scaling environment
  • Familiarity with regulatory testing and certification processes (FCC, UL, CE, SOC2, HIPPA, safety, compliance).
Bonus Skills
  • Prior professional experience with physical access products and security systems
  • Familiarity with Jira, Confluence, Github and GKE.
