Job description
TEAM OVERVIEW
KKR's Enterprise Risk Management ("ERM") function is responsible for ensuring the consistent application of the risk management framework globally to help KKR achieve its strategic objectives and operational efficiency while operating within the firm's risk appetite.
ERM's objectives:
Identify and monitor risk from the firm's verticals to understand global, horizontal risk trends and issues
Assess and measure risks, control gaps or enhancements for risk relevant programs
Aggregate risk information for monitoring and reporting; inform risk-based decision making
With a focus on creating a proactive risk management culture, embedding risk awareness into decision making processes across the firm, as part of our global organization, you will have the opportunity to contribute to an integrated approach to risk management, helping to shape our firm's approach to risk - making a meaningful impact on our ability to navigate an increasingly complex risk landscape.
POSITION SUMMARY
KKR is seeking a high-performing Principal to join its Enterprise Risk team as an Enterprise Risk Officer within the Risk Domain Office.
The Risk Domain Office is responsible for providing independent oversight of the firm's most significant enterprise risk domains and developing an integrated view of risk across businesses, functions, and geographies. As a core component of KKR's Enterprise Risk Operating Model, the team plays a critical role in identifying emerging risks, synthesizing cross-risk insights, strengthening enterprise risk oversight, and supporting informed decision-making at the executive and board levels.
As an Enterprise Risk Officer, you will play a leading role in the oversight and evolution of one or more enterprise risk domains, working closely with business leaders, control functions, and regional risk teams to assess risk exposures, challenge assumptions, identify emerging themes, and provide actionable risk insights. You will help translate complex and interconnected risks into a clear enterprise perspective that supports effective governance and risk-based decision making.
This role offers broad exposure across KKR's global businesses, including Asset Management, Insurance, Strategic Holdings, and Corporate Functions. The successful candidate will be a well-rounded risk professional with strong analytical capability, sound judgment, and the ability to influence stakeholders across a complex organization, and will be expected to exercise independent judgment in assessing risk issues, developing enterprise perspectives, and providing effective challenge to stakeholders across the organization.
This is a unique opportunity to join a growing function and play a foundational role in the continued development of KKR's Risk Domain Office, helping to strengthen how the firm understands, oversees, and manages risk across an increasingly complex and dynamic environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Risk Domain Oversight
- Lead oversight activities across one or more enterprise risk domains, helping establish a consistent and forward-looking view of risk across the firm.
- Develop a deep understanding of key risk drivers, exposures, trends, and emerging issues within assigned areas of oversight.
- Provide independent challenge and risk perspective regarding material risks, emerging concerns, and risk management effectiveness.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of risk identification, monitoring, escalation, and mitigation activities across relevant risk domains.
Enterprise Risk Insight & Analysis:
- Lead enterprise risk synthesis activities within assigned areas, helping develop a consolidated view of emerging risks and key themes.
- Identify risk concentrations, interdependencies, and emerging issues across businesses, functions, and geographies.
- Develop enterprise-wide perspectives on interconnected risks, helping management understand key concentrations, dependencies, and emerging threats across the firm.
- Conduct thematic reviews, scenario analysis, and forward-looking assessments that strengthen understanding of the firm's risk profile.
- Translate complex and interconnected risks into actionable insights for senior stakeholders.
Risk Governance & Decision Support:
- Develop risk insights and reporting for executive leadership, risk committees, and board-level governance forums, helping communicate the firm's most significant risks, emerging themes, and areas requiring management attention.
- Facilitate constructive discussion and escalation of significant risk issues and emerging concerns.
- Partner with stakeholders across businesses, functions, and regions to promote transparency and consistency in risk management practices.
Stakeholder Engagement & Influence:
- Collaborate closely with regional risk teams, business leadership, Compliance, Legal, Internal Audit, Technology, and other control functions to maintain an integrated view of risk.
- Serve as a trusted advisor and partner on risk-related matters while maintaining independence of judgment.
- Influence stakeholders through thoughtful challenge, strong communication, and a balanced commercial perspective.
Continuous Improvement & Capability Development:
- Contribute to the ongoing evolution of KKR's Enterprise Risk Operating Model, identifying opportunities to enhance the effectiveness, consistency, and maturity of risk domain oversight, risk intelligence, governance, and enterprise risk management practices across the firm.
- Support the development of risk frameworks, methodologies, reporting, and governance processes to ensure they remain fit for purpose as the firm grows and evolves.
- Champion a proactive, insight-driven approach to risk management that strengthens risk awareness, accountability, and decision-making.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 10+ years of experience in Enterprise Risk Management, Operational Risk, Non-Financial Risk, Internal Audit, Risk Advisory, Risk Transformation, or related risk disciplines, ideally within Financial Services, Asset Management, Insurance, Banking, or a leading consulting firm.
- Demonstrated ability to independently assess complex risk issues, develop enterprise-level risk perspectives, and provide effective challenge and advice to senior business and functional stakeholders.
- Experience working across businesses, functions, and geographies within a complex organization, building relationships and influencing outcomes at multiple levels.
- Track record of leading cross-functional initiatives involving risk management, governance, regulatory change, business transformation, or operating model enhancement.
- Strong understanding of enterprise risk management principles, risk governance frameworks, and industry risk management practices.
- Experience developing risk insights and reporting for senior management, governance forums, and executive stakeholders.
- Ability to synthesize information from multiple sources and develop clear perspectives on emerging risks, interconnected exposures, and enterprise-wide risk themes.
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Risk Management, Economics, Finance, Business Analytics, Management, or equivalent professional experience.
CRITICAL COMPETENCIES FOR SUCCESS
- Strong understanding of enterprise risk management principles, governance frameworks, and industry risk management practices.
- Ability to develop a holistic view of risk, identifying themes, interdependencies, and emerging issues across businesses, functions, and risk domains.
- High analytical acumen combined with sound business judgment and commercial awareness.
- Demonstrated ability to synthesize complex information and translate it into clear, actionable insights for senior stakeholders, and to exercise independent risk judgment and develop enterprise-wide perspectives on complex and emerging risk issues.
- Confidence to provide independent challenge and influence decision-making while maintaining strong relationships across the organization.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present effectively to senior management, governance forums, and executive stakeholders.
- Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build credibility and work effectively across businesses, functions, regions, and levels of seniority, coupled with intellectual curiosity and a proactive approach to identifying risks, opportunities, and areas for improvement.
- Ability to lead and deliver complex initiatives in a dynamic environment, balancing competing priorities while maintaining attention to detail, with high levels of integrity, accountability, and personal ownership.
