Job Description:
Apex Systems is looking to hire an ONSITE Director of Quality Engineering for our client based out of Washington, D.C.
This is a full-time, permanent opportunity.
This will also have a first-shift Monday-Friday schedule.
Candidates must possess an active Top Secret/SCI clearance. U.S. Citizenship is required.
Responsibilities:
  • Lead the development, implementation, continuous improvement, and governance of the organization's Quality Management System (QMS).
  • Establish quality processes, procedures, work instructions, and controls to support manufacturing, engineering, and operational activities.
  • Drive adoption of Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) methodologies and quality best practices throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Lead a team of quality engineers and quality professionals, ensuring quality standards are embedded across design, planning, manufacturing, and delivery processes.
  • Partner with engineering, operations, manufacturing, and project teams to ensure quality requirements are understood and executed.
  • Conduct quality audits and assessments to measure process maturity, identify improvement opportunities, and ensure compliance with organizational standards.
  • Lead corrective and preventive action programs, including discrepancy management, root cause investigations, and CAPA implementation.
  • Review engineering documentation, technical specifications, drawings, and project deliverables to ensure compliance with quality requirements.
  • Coordinate third-party audits, inspections, testing activities, and external quality assessments.
  • Provide leadership on quality initiatives, operational risk discussions, and continuous improvement programs.
  • Monitor quality performance metrics and provide recommendations to leadership for process optimization and risk reduction.
  • Ensure compliance with quality, regulatory, and certification requirements across the organization.
  • Manage external certification audits and maintain compliance with applicable standards.

Experience:
  • Active Top Secret/SCI Clearance required.
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related technical discipline.
  • 16+ years of manufacturing, engineering, quality, or operational excellence experience.
  • Previous experience in a Quality Manager, QA/QC Manager, Manufacturing Engineering Manager, Operations Manager, Engineering Manager, or similar leadership role.
  • Strong experience developing, implementing, and auditing Quality Management Systems (QMS).
  • Extensive knowledge of:
    • ISO 9001:2015
    • APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning)
    • Lean Manufacturing
    • Six Sigma methodologies
    • Corrective and Preventive Action (CAPA) systems
  • Experience leading internal and external audits and supporting certification compliance efforts.
  • Experience working across multiple disciplines including engineering, manufacturing, quality, supply chain, suppliers, subcontractors, and third-party testing organizations.
  • Strong ability to review and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, technical documentation, and manufacturing requirements.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and process improvement capabilities.

Nice to Have:
  • Experience supporting highly regulated, mission-critical, aerospace, defense, industrial manufacturing, infrastructure, or construction environments.
  • Black Belt, Green Belt, CQE, CQA, or similar professional quality certifications.
  • Experience with:
    • ISO 27001
    • CMMI
    • UL compliance requirements
  • Experience leading enterprise-wide quality transformation initiatives.
