As we continue to grow, we are seeking a Director of Engineering who is responsible for driving operational performance through planning, organizing and directing of the Engineering departments. The successful candidate will be a results-oriented team player with strong analytical skills, a process improvement mindset, detail orientation, and excellent verbal and written communication abilities.

Location: Onsite - Bessemer, Alabama

What You’ll Do

  • Supervise and direct the actions of an onsite engineering department as well as a 3rd party engineering team in India.
  • Communicates with other departments and vendors on technical matters as required.
  • Providing support for Sales, Operations, Quality Assurance, and Manufacturing Engineering.
  • Designing products based upon the interpretation of IEEE specifications, customer specifications, and acceptable manufacturing processes.
  • Providing supervision/development of Engineering personnel
  • Assisting in business planning.
  • Reviewing or developing BOMs to meet customer product requirements.
  • Training RSMC personnel and sales agents regarding product design.
  • Maintaining good working relationships with peers in all departments.
  • Specifying and documenting the requirements for materials, processes, and products including all Engineering documentation (drawings, certified test reports, computer work documentation, etc.)
  • Properly using, caring for, and maintaining acquisition of tools, instruments, factory equipment, test equipment, and office equipment required to perform job tasks.
  • Maintaining extensive internal contact with all departments, contact with agents, customers, vendors, and IEEE committees as directed including technical presentations.

What You’ll Need to Excel in This Role

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical or electrical engineering from an accredited school required.
  • 5+ years of relevant business and 3+ years supervisory experience required.
  • Self-motivation with a positive, adaptive, and success-seeking mentality.
  • Working knowledge of Engineering principles, IEEE specifications and test methods.
  • Communication and interpersonal skills
  • Computer hardware and software experience in CAD and CNC programming.
  • Professional Engineering certification is desirable but not required.
  • MBA is desirable but not required.
  • Timely and well-organized communicator.
  • Comfortable with Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with ERP systems, INFOR SyteLine is a plus.
  • Power and/or electrical system knowledge.

  • Strong computer skills in Excel, Word, MS Office suite
  • Strong analytical skills with a high-level of attention to detail and business process
  • Strong skills in developing and presenting performance metrics reports
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work with others
