Manager of Network Services Washington DC

Job ID: 21208

We are seeking a hands-on Network Infrastructure Manager with strong experience leading enterprise network operations and engineering teams within a large, multi-site environment. This individual should possess deep technical expertise across routing and switching, WAN/LAN, VPNs, wireless networking, firewalls, network segmentation, and hybrid data center/cloud connectivity, while also demonstrating proven leadership in managing engineers, driving infrastructure projects, and maintaining highly available network environments.

A strong background administering Cisco networking technologies including routing, switching, wireless, and VPN is essential, along with hands‑on experience managing Fortinet firewalls and security appliances. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of partnering with cybersecurity teams to implement network security controls, perform infrastructure remediation, and support governance and compliance initiatives. Experience in a law firm or other professional services environment, combined with excellent operational leadership, troubleshooting, vendor management, and documentation skills, will position the candidate for success in this role.

Responsibilities
  • Manage the day‑to‑day operations, stability, and performance of the firm’s enterprise network services, including WAN/LAN, firewalls, routing and switching, wireless, VPN, load balancing, and segmented network environments.
  • Lead and supervise network engineers, providing technical guidance, work prioritization, coaching, performance management, and professional development.
  • Execute network upgrades, enhancements, and remediation initiatives in alignment with firm‑wide standards, roadmaps, and change‑management practices.
  • Support and contribute to infrastructure modernization initiatives, technology refreshes, data center transitions, and cloud connectivity projects led by the Director of Network Services.
  • Oversee regular patching of various network infrastructure components.
  • Serve as the primary operational escalation point for network‑related incidents; coordinate troubleshooting, root cause analysis, communication, and timely resolution.
  • Collaborate with the firm’s cybersecurity function to implement required security controls, monitoring, and remediation within network infrastructure, while maintaining clear separation of ownership.
  • Coordinate with application, support, and IT operations teams to ensure integrated, reliable end‑to‑end service delivery across hybrid environments.
  • Monitor network availability, capacity, and performance metrics; analyze trends and recommend improvements to enhance resiliency and service quality.
  • Maintain accurate and current network documentation, including diagrams, configurations, standard operating procedures, and runbooks.
  • Support vendor and managed service provider relationships, including coordination, performance monitoring, and issue escalation, under the direction of the Director.
  • Ensure all network operations and changes comply with established governance, security, and risk‑management requirements appropriate for a law firm environment.
  • Participate in on‑call escalation and incident response activities as required.
  • Perform other related duties consistent with the scope and level of this role.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Six or more years of progressive experience in enterprise network engineering or infrastructure operations within a large‑scale, multi‑site or professional services environment.
  • Three or more years of experience leading or supervising technical staff, including network engineers or network analysts/administrators.
  • Demonstrated hands‑on expertise in enterprise network technologies, including routing and switching, WAN/LAN design, VPN solutions, wireless networking, and network segmentation.
  • Experience supporting hybrid infrastructure environments, including data centers and cloud connectivity.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple operational priorities, incidents, and projects in a high‑availability environment.
  • Experience working in partnership with cybersecurity teams to implement security requirements and remediation measures within network infrastructure.
  • Strong troubleshooting, technical documentation, and problem‑resolution skills.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Sound judgment, attention to detail, and a service‑oriented mindset appropriate to a professional services and law firm environment.
