The Director, Lab Operations is responsible for the day to day technical and scientific operation of the laboratory and other duties as delegated by the Medical Director. The position provides for the overall operation, leadership, direction, and administration of the Clinical Laboratories in accordance with federal and state regulations governing clinical laboratories. This position reports to the VP, Lab Operations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Establishes operational and strategic objectives and work plans for the clinical laboratory

  • Develops, monitors and utilizes data to evaluate and drive operational and business decisions

  • Manages laboratory operations within the budget with financial goal improvement through cost savings initiatives and improved productivity

  • Standardizes and consolidates policy and procedure for services as needed at all lab sites

  • Facilitates coordination of communication between all departments and across shifts

  • Ensures teammates competencies in performing, recording and reporting test results accurately, promptly and proficiently assuring compliance with applicable regulations

  • Ensures quality control and quality assurance programs are established and maintained to assure the quality of laboratory services provided

  • Oversees compliance with DaVita policy and procedures in accordance with federal, state and local regulations

  • Ensures good customer relations for both internal and external clients, following up on problems providing timely resolution

  • Delivers status reports to administration monitoring daily operations and project updates

  • Oversees the development of the laboratory service line's plans and programs in evaluation of long-range planning for internal and external business line opportunities

  • Provides leadership to direct reports:

  • Help direct reports overcome any organizational obstacles encountered

  • Know, understand, implement, follow, and communicate to teammates DaVita employment policies and procedures, awards, and other opportunities within company and foster a positive work environment

  • Facilitate teammate development (PDRs, coaching, mentoring, DaVita training, outside training); collaborate with direct reports to create professional development goals

  • Monitors workflows and delegates responsibilities to team members, assists in scheduling personnel and time-keeping functions;

  • Manages all teammate employment activity such as hiring, promoting, job performance, evaluations, and disciplinary actions with appropriate approvals as required;

  • Plans, organizes and supervises teammates to ensure high quality teammate customer service:

  • Provide work direction for department teammates

  • Determine staffing plans that promote the most effective use of all teammates ensure coverage during teammate absences

  • Maintains teammate records to include written performance evaluation of all staff records to be kept in compliance with DaVita policy and any applicable laws:

  • Ensure accurate, timely processing of Workday tasks

  • Evaluate, record and process teammate reviews and compensation according to company policy and in timely manner

  • Review and approve time cards of teammates as required for payroll

  • Knows, understands, follows, and implements basic wage and hour laws, federal, state and local laws and regulations, Medicare, and legislation affecting employment

  • Develops and conducts educational programs to keep teammates up-to-date on DaVita policies, new laws and regulations impacting work, and other information necessary to provide knowledgeable, accurate work output

  • Maintains familiarity with and communicate to teammates DaVita programs impacting teammates including but not limited to Triple Crown

  • Other duties as assigned

  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or related sciences required; Advance degree (MBA, MPH, MHA) highly preferred

  • Medical Technologist approved registry required

  • Minimum of eight (8) years laboratory management experience of similar size and scope required; Ten (10) years highly preferred

  • Intermediate computer skills and proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
