A civil engineering firm is seeking a Director of Engineering to provide strategic leadership for its engineering department. The role is responsible for overseeing civil engineering project delivery, managing engineering teams, ensuring quality and regulatory compliance, driving technical excellence, supporting business development, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams. The position requires extensive experience in civil engineering leadership, transportation/public infrastructure projects, and engineering operations.
Job Roles and Responsibilities
Lead, mentor, and develop engineering staff while promoting technical excellence.
Oversee civil engineering project delivery across multiple service lines.
Ensure compliance with engineering standards, regulations, and quality control procedures.
Manage project scope, schedules, budgets, staffing, and resource allocation.
Develop and implement engineering standards, SOPs, QA/QC procedures, and technical guidelines.
Oversee engineering software platforms and technology used for design and project management.
Support proposal preparation, feasibility studies, and technical presentations.
Coordinate with survey, environmental, and construction management teams.
Monitor industry trends, engineering technologies, and regulatory updates.
Participate in strategic planning and executive-level operational decisions.
Maintain client relationships and provide technical leadership on major infrastructure projects.
Supervise engineering staff and technical personnel.
Qualifications and Certifications
Required
Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering.
Professional Engineer (PE) License in Civil Engineering or equivalent engineering credentials.
Minimum 10 years of civil engineering experience.
Minimum 5 years of engineering leadership, supervisory, or project management experience.
Strong experience with Department of Transportation (DOT) projects.
Experience in transportation engineering, public infrastructure, or public works.
Strong knowledge of engineering standards, regulations, and quality assurance.
Excellent leadership, communication, and technical writing skills.
Valid Driver's License.
Preferred
Experience with state DOT-funded transportation projects.
Experience using Electronic Program Management (EPM) systems.
Strong MicroStation experience.
Experience with Autodesk Civil 3D.
GIS platform experience.
Public sector infrastructure experience.
Business development and proposal management experience.
Knowledge of environmental permitting.
Knowledge of geotechnical engineering.
