When you join CIMA+, we welcome you to a place that you can call home.

Job Description

CIMA+’s Buildings group in Western Canada continues to experience significant growth and opportunity, with an expanding portfolio of complex, high-impact projects. To help lead the next phase of development, we are seeking an experienced and entrepreneurial leader to accelerate the growth of our practice in Calgary. As the Director of Buildings Engineering, you will play a central role in shaping the future of our integrated service offering – mechanical, electrical, and structural engineering – while building on our strong foundations in Western Canada.

This is a high-impact leadership opportunity for a senior professional who thrives at the intersection of technical leadership, team development, and business growth. Working closely with the existing Mechanical team leadership and our regional and national multidisciplinary Buildings teams, you will help drive strategic growth, expand our client base, and strengthen our reputation for excellence across Alberta and Western Canada.

At CIMA+, we are driven by purpose — to design resilient, sustainable, functional communities while putting people first. We foster collaboration and reward innovation. As an employee-owned firm, we offer a unique opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the company’s success and share in that success you help create.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead the strategic development of the Calgary Buildings practice, working with the existing mechanical team and carrying the primary responsibility of establishing a multidisciplinary service offering in Calgary (mechanical, electrical, and structural engineering) to position CIMA+ as a leader in integrated building design.
  • Provide leadership to the existing Calgary Mechanical Engineering team, supporting the current leadership group to ensure strong technical delivery, collaboration, and growth.
  • Lead and contribute to business development initiatives, including identifying new markets, building client relationships, and pursuing major project opportunities.
  • Serve as a trusted client advisor, representing CIMA+ at key industry events, meetings, and strategic pursuits.
  • Provide senior technical oversight on major projects, ensuring quality, innovation, and alignment with client expectations.
  • Mentor and empower engineers and designers at all levels, fostering a culture of technical excellence and professional growth.
  • Collaborate with internal partners across disciplines and offices to deliver coordinated, high-quality designs and proposals.
  • Support operational excellence by managing project performance, staffing, and resource planning in collaboration with project managers and technical leads.
  • Contribute to the continued improvement of design standards, tools, and workflows to enhance quality, efficiency, and sustainability.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registered with APEGA.
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in mechanical, electrical, or structural engineering in Alberta for buildings, including project management and client-facing roles
  • Demonstrated success leading or supporting teams within a consulting engineering environment
  • Proven ability to build and maintain long-term client relationships and identify growth opportunities
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills
  • Integrity, team spirit, and a commitment to excellence
  • A strong understanding of the Calgary and Alberta buildings consulting market
