Job description

MSI is a full-service advertising agency based in Anchorage, Alaska, and is seeking a Director of Web Services to lead our team and to assist with WordPress website development and maintenance and hosting service support. The ideal candidate would be a proactive problem solver, have excellent communication skills and prioritize lifelong learning. This position requires a highly focused individual who can maintain and support a large workload of many small to medium web-related tasks for a substantial portfolio of website clients. Understanding of website coding best practices and security protocols is a must.

Primary Responsibilities

Web Strategy & Leadership

  • Lead the agency’s web services, establishing processes and maintaining best practices
  • Serve as the senior technical advisor for clients, translating business objectives into effective digital solutions
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend new platforms, tools and services that strengthen agency capabilities
  • Identify opportunities to expand existing client relationships through additional digital services
  • Collaborate with agency leadership to identify opportunities for growth, innovation and new service offerings

Website Development, Maintenance & Support

  • Develop responsive, accessible and user-friendly websites
  • Write clean, maintainable and well-documented code
  • Translate creative designs and functional requirements into high-quality digital experiences
  • Build and maintain websites using WordPress (familiarity with GeneratePress and Gutenberg block editor are advantageous)
  • Perform ongoing website maintenance, updates and enhancements
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues in a timely manner
  • Monitor website performance, uptime and security
  • Manage software, plugin and platform updates, experience with AWS and Plesk is a plus
  • Perform website migrations, backups and recovery
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
  • Enthusiastic, positive, can-do attitude with strong time management skills
  • Work closely with designers, digital marketers, other web developers, and client services team
  • Proven ability to lead multiple website projects from discovery through launch
  • Ability to meet deadlines and budgets
  • 7 to 10+ years of professional web development experience, including experience leading projects and teams
  • Demonstrated experience developing and implementing web strategies that align with client business goals
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Web Development or related field or equivalent professional experience
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Personal transportation with proof of current insurance
