The New Ship Network Engineer II is responsible for installing, configuring, and supporting network infrastructure and application components. The network engineer also provides input on network design configurations and installations and is a key contributor to Mercy Ships new ship build project, working closely with cross functional teams.
This is an onsite full time, 2 year limited term role based in Lindale, TX. This opportunity is an Independent Contractor role and requires significant domestic and international travel, approximately 40-60% of the year.
Annual Compensation Range is $60,000-$79,000
**Compensation range listed is for U.S. hires only. Actual compensation may vary dependent upon location of hire.
How You'll Contribute:
  • Maintain a strong foundational understanding of Internet technologies and network protocols.
  • Unbox, rack, install, and configure Cisco routers and switches.
  • Install, configure, and support wireless networking systems.
  • Assist in the design and implementation of multi-server environments, including IP addressing schemes.
  • Provide technical assistance and support to staff, administrators, service providers, site personnel, and external vendors.
  • Maintain and support multi-site network operations across both private and public facilities.
  • Administer and maintain perimeter security systems, including firewalls and intrusion detection systems.
  • Manage assigned projects and program components to ensure services are delivered in alignment with established objectives.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve network hardware and connectivity issues.
  • Provide after-hours or on-call support as required.
  • Meet eligibility requirements for travel in accordance with mercy ships policies, government regulations, and health requirements.
  • Maintains alignment and upholds Mercy Ships Core Values, Code of Conduct, and follows the policies and procedures published on Compass.

Ideal Candidate:
  • Ability to live and work in a community-oriented environment, demonstrating healthy interpersonal and relational skills.
  • Strong expertise in Cisco routers and switches.
  • In-depth understanding of TCP IP networking.
  • Knowledge of routing protocols such as EIGRP and BGP.
  • Strong understanding of LAN technologies including VLANs.
  • Working knowledge of network services and protocols such as HTTP/S, DNS, and FTP.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and diagnostic skills, including Wan connectivity.
  • Experience working independently with service providers.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to research networking issues, technologies, and solutions as needed.
  • Highly self-motivated with strong attention to detail.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Education and Experience:
  • This role aligns with Enterprise Infrastructure Tiered Role Model.
  • Must meet the requirements of Connectivity Tier 2 experience.
  • Must meet the requirements of Connectivity Tier 2 certification and education
  • Experience using network monitoring tools experience with Palo Alto networks, Cisco, and Aruba technologies is strongly preferred
