 W&A Engineering is a growing, multidisciplinary firm offering civil engineering, landscape architecture, surveying, and program management with offices across the Southeast. Known for our innovative design, efficient engineering, and professional service, W&A is the trusted partner of community leaders and developers driving sustainable growth throughout the United States. We are seeking a Director of Civil to oversee our civil department in Athens, GA. This professional must have experience within the civil site design industry and be able to lead a team of engineers in addition to driving business within the market. From working with clients and across company departments to site visits to producing plans, you’ll be involved in many aspects of the land development process.


 

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Establish goals and objectives for the department that align with the company’s overall mission statement
  • Lead and motivate a team of employees to achieve department goals
  • Plan and coordinate the overall work of the department
  • Oversee department and ensure that goals and objectives are met
  • Conduct performance evaluations that are timely and constructive
  • Provide staff training, development, and mentoring as needed
  • Participate in budget development and allocation of funds to ensure that departmental needs are met
  • Guide managers on implementing company initiatives and policies 
  • Review and approve employee PTO requests, timesheets, and project billing
  • Create and implement SOPs that enhance production and the QA/QC process
  • Assess and report department progress to Leadership
  • Overall responsibility for progress and timeliness of projects
  • Review project reports to ensure projects are on schedule and within budget
  • Analyze department utilization and profitability
  • Participate in the proposal writing process 
  • Actively participate in contract review and approval process
  • Allocate departmental resources to optimize productivity and ROI
  • Maintain awareness of industry and market trends
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, local, industry, contractual, and company regulations, standards, specifications, and best practices
  • Company representative in networking, professional groups, and the community
  • Responsible for client satisfaction, management, and growth
  • Continue to develop professionally by maintaining technical proficiency, expanding licensure footprint, and participating in continuing education opportunities
  • Mitigate risk in the department
  • Lead and participate in EOS meetings and process
  • Billing/invoicing & collections
  • Work with HR to recruit additional staff as needed
