Versant Media is seeking an experienced Frontend Engineer who possesses a passion for building great user experiences for digital platforms. They will work with our team of talented engineers to design and build the next generation of flagship digital experiences for our CNBC brand. Our team offers a unique opportunity to be part of a passionate, collaborative team building digital experiences used by millions of users. Your voice will be key in helping us craft a technical vision that aligns with the goals of the organization, increases the effectiveness and reach of the frontend web team and ultimately maximizes revenue. As a technical leader in our engineering community, your experience will be crucial in helping coach and mentor junior devs and have a direct impact on the architectural vision and strategy of our division.

Responsibilities

● Build, test, review, and ship software for our platforms, including our suite of APIs and microservices, and web frontends

● Drive collaboration on the design of system architecture, data models, data flows, schemas and API contracts

● Facilitate cross-platform engineering discussions that lead to consistency, efficiency and unity within a multi-stack team.

● Engage in code reviews that lead to high-quality software and team decisions.

● Influence and refine the technical strategy and architectural principles for our organization.

● Collaborate with cross-functional teammates to define, design, scope, and ship user-impacting features.

● Collaborate with relevant technical groups, such as backend and component library development teams, educating others about the work of the team and assuring strong integration between systems and high trust between groups.

● Optimize team efficiency and output quality with strategies including unit-test coverage and working with QA on test automations.

● Identify opportunities to reduce tech debt.

● Write and refine useful documentation that optimizes developer experience and onboarding for new teammates.

● Help define vision for long-term engineering goals.

● Define and champion engineering principles that lead to great developer experience, high application performance and all-around user satisfaction.

Qualifications

Qualifications/Requirements

● Minimum 7+ years of professional frontend development experience

● Solid understanding of core programming principles and design patterns

● Solid background writing tests and improving test quality and coverage

● Comfortable working with Git, Jenkins and Jira

● Ability to leverage build tools to enable cross-team module sharing and integration with third-party modules

● Fluency and comfort utilizing and improving CI/CD pipelines for native apps

● Great communication skills, paying special attention to how your message is delivered to technical and non-technical audiences alike.

Preferred Qualifications

● Experience with contemporary backend development platforms, such as cloud services, container technologies and serverless backends.

● Experience with web technologies, hybrid apps or native integration of web applications

● A mobile-first mindset, paying special attention to accessibility, page optimization and/or SEO

● Excels in an environment with cross-functional teams, working fluidly with Product Managers, Data Scientists, Software Developers, Editors, and other highly skilled specialists

● Experience working in media/publishing
