Responsibilities
Compass Intervention Center has been providing psychiatric services in Memphis, Tennessee for 29-years. Compass Intervention Center is a 108-bed, free-standing facility that treats children and teens, ages 12 to 17 for Residential and Acute patients; ages 10 to 17 for our Outpatient Programs struggling with a psychiatric, substance abuse or dual diagnosis disorder. It is the only TRICARE®-certified residential treatment facility in Memphis, Tennessee.
We are dedicated to providing age-specific programs to address the needs of children, preteens and teens with a wide variety of psychiatric illnesses, behavioral problems and substance abuse issues.
Our treatment programs focus on youth and families struggling with emotional, behavioral, and chemical dependency issues. We provide specialized, individual treatment to help every patient achieve a positive outcome and improve relationships.

JOB SUMMARY:
As the Risk Manager the main responsibility is the oversight of the UHS Risk Management TERM Program. The Risk Manager reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer with dotted line reporting to the Corporate Risk Manager. The Risk Manager meets personally with the Chief Executive Officer on a periodic basis. Detailed responsibilities are outlined below.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Risk Identification and Evaluation
  • Ensures appropriate and timely reporting of occurrences by maintaining Incident Reporting system and enters incidents into the MIDAS Database.
  • Collects and screens all reports.
  • Analyzes and trends data
  • Identifies actual and potential risk situations and facilitates the determination of causative factors
  • Refers occurrences for follow‑up to appropriate department or medical committee; ensures that all Level III/IV events are referred to the Peer Review Committee
  • Receives immediate and concurrent reporting of adverse patient outcomes identified by the PI process
  • Performs risk surveys and inspects patient care areas in concert with hospital's safety (EOC) program committee objectives
  • Reviews reports on facility and equipment to assess loss potential
  • Receives and investigates reports of product problem to determine appropriate response and establish record keeping responsibilities. In the event of patient injury, established direction from Corporate Risk Management in the appropriate action for defense strategy
  • Receives information (verbally or formally) from facility staff regarding patient events which may lead to a claim.

Qualifications
Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing or other mental health related program. Bachelor Degree required.
Experience: Clinical experience in a psychiatric in ‑ patient facility with knowledge of high- risk areas preferred. Two years Risk Management experience.
Certification: Licensed Nurse or Bachelor degree in Mental Health/Social Work.
Skills: Knowledge of hospital operations, risk identification, assessment and reduction and claims management; excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
Physical Requirements: Ability to stoop, kneel, sit, stand, crouch, reach, grasp, walk, push, pull, lift, moving about in work area and throughout hospital to accomplish tasks. Perform repetitive motions with wrists, hand, and fingers. Ability to express and exchange ideas via spoken word, conveying information to others in an audible, accurate, and on occasion, quick manner. Ability to perceive the nature of sounds with or without correction; perceive detailed information through oral communication and to make fine discriminations in sound.
Must be able to concentrate on work amid distractions such as noise, conversations, and foot traffic; must be able to consistently meet deadlines regardless of case load; must be flexible in work hours in order to meet patient and organization operating needs. Must maintain self-control in volatile or hostile situations such as when verbally or physically confronted. Computer skills with advanced knowledge in Word, Power Point, and Excel programs.
