Summary

The Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery in the Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) is seeking a cardiothoracic surgeon at the rank of Assistant Professor to join the cardiothoracic surgery program at the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center, a major BCM hospital affiliate. Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center has a long-standing cardiothoracic surgery program with an emphasis on excellence in clinical care, education, and research. This program is one of the largest volume cardiac programs in the VA system and includes a ventricular assist device and on‑site heart transplant program. The MEDVAMC program is also supported by an on‑site surgical health services research group.

Responsibilities
  • Perform the full spectrum of cardiovascular operations including coronary artery bypass grafting, valve surgery, aortic surgery, transcatheter procedures, and general thoracic surgery.
  • Provide clinical care, education, and research within the cardiothoracic surgery program.
  • Commit to teaching medical students, surgery residents, and cardiothoracic surgery fellows.
  • Develop innovative research in basic/translational or data sciences.
  • Preference is given to candidates focusing on thoracic oncology.
Minimum Qualifications
  • ABTS board certification or board eligibility is required.
  • Must qualify for a full and unrestricted Texas medical license.
  • Strong record in clinical excellence and teaching, and research experience as described in application materials.
