Job SummaryThe Engineer will prepare design and contract documents, as well as develop specifications and generate cost estimates associated with civil work and track design including light rail, rapid transit, drainage design, utility relocation, pavement design, and other engineering related functions.
Duties & Responsibilities- Provide construction phase services on awarded contracts
- Assist in the development and updating of track standards and civil site work standards for MBTA Transit system projects
- Provide guidance to MBTA consultants, Project Managers and Track Supervisors with respect to design, construction and maintenance projects related to rail transit systems
- Prepare contract documents for both internal and external construction
- Participate in field survey of Transit system tracks for geometry verification and re-design
- Perform design review work on MBTA Design and Construction contracts and write corresponding review comments
- Drive a company or personal vehicle to visit work sites and to assist at emergencies and/or events as needed
- Coordinate the planning, scheduling and execution of all testing performed for the purpose of improving the reliability of system components
- Familiarity with the MBTA Safety Plan as well as the position's outlined responsibilities
- Monitor the reliability of major systems and selected components; conduct site inspections of systems and materials to verify quality and prepare required reports
- Respond to each inquiry, whether from a customer, vendor or coworker in a courteous and professional manner.
- Perform related duties and projects as assigned
Minimum Requirements & Qualifications- A Bachelors Degree in Civil, Structural, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
- Zero (0) to Three (3) years of experience in field layout engineering
- Ability to effectively manage several projects simultaneously through to completion
- Effective organizational, analytical, time management and multi-tasking skills
- Must possess a valid driver's license in accordance with MBTA policy.
- Working knowledge of CAD, Microsoft Office, and PDF editing applications
- Effectively communicate with regulatory agencies, community organizations and others on technical and sensitive matters
- Excellent customer service and conflict resolution skills
- The ability to provide internal and external customers with a courteous and professional experience
- The ability to work any and all shifts and/or locations as assigned or directed
- The ability to work twenty-four (24) hours per day, seven (7) days per week

- Intern / co-op staff must be enrolled full or part-time in an accredited educational program and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 for the entire duration of the internship / co-op. Additionally, interns / co-ops must have valid work authorization and U.S. Social Security Number prior to starting pre-employment screenings / pre-boarding, working in their positions, and throughout the duration of their program.
