Product Engineer - Plastic Injection Manufacturing - Base Salary to 100k/year - Appleton, WI

  • Our client, a well-established global manufacturer, is seeking a Product Engineer to join their engineering team in Appleton, WI. This role will support products throughout their lifecycle, from new product development and mechanical design through production, continuous improvement, and sustaining engineering. Working closely with engineering and manufacturing teams, the Product Engineer will use SolidWorks to develop and improve product designs while providing hands-on support within the manufacturing environment. Experience with plastic injection molding is highly relevant, though candidates with engineering experience in molding, machining, or assembly environments will also be considered.
  • The Product Engineer will report to the Director of Engineering and join an engineering team of approximately 13. During the first three months, the role will be approximately 50% office-based and 50% on the manufacturing floor, with additional floor time depending on project needs. Longer term, the position is expected to be approximately 60–75% office-based.
  • Hybrid schedule: After the first 90 days, 2 days/week may be worked from home.

Responsibilities:

  • Support product engineering throughout the product lifecycle, including new product development, sustaining engineering, continuous improvement, product quality, and manufacturing support
  • Develop and improve products and components using SolidWorks for 3D modeling, assemblies, engineering drawings, and design documentation
  • Work directly with manufacturing and engineering teams to troubleshoot product and production issues and implement design or process improvements
  • Support the design, development, and production of plastic injection molded components and products, as applicable
  • Evaluate existing products and designs for opportunities related to cost reduction, value engineering, quality, performance, and manufacturability
  • Provide hands-on engineering support to manufacturing operations, including molding, machining, and assembly processes
  • Maintain and update product designs, drawings, specifications, and other engineering documentation throughout the product lifecycle
  • Support the transition of new and modified products from design and development into manufacturing

Qualifications:

  • Mechanical Engineering degree or equivalent technical education/experience
  • Working use of Microsoft Office and SolidWorks, including 3D modeling, assemblies, and drawings
  • 5+ years Engineering for manufacturing – molding, machining, assembly
  • Experience working directly within manufacturing or production environments, including manufacturing floor support
