UC Law SF (formerly UC Hastings) was founded in 1878 as the law department of the University of California and was the first law school in California. LexLab is the law school’s Technology Law and Lawyering center. LexLab connects students, founders, lawyers, faculty, alumni, industry leaders, and technologists who are building new tools and new approaches to legal work. LexLab creates programs that help students develop the skills, fluency, and judgment this new era demands, while giving the broader community a serious place to engage with innovation, ethics, AI, and the future of the profession. During the 2025-26 academic year, LexLab hosted 40 events that brought more than 100 speakers to our community. LexLab also launched a Law & AI Certificate (LAIC) executive education program that gained recognition as a premier educational resource for professionals looking to level up their AI skills for the legal industry. Additionally, LexLab piloted a semester‑long workshop series to train current students to become AI‑enabled lawyers.

LexLab is hiring a part‑time Innovation Media Strategist & Storytelling Director (“Media Strategist”) to help extend our voice across digital, press, and partner channels by finding the right stories, sharpening the message, and ensuring it travels to the right ears. This role is part strategist, part editor, part reporter, part producer. It is for someone who writes well, thinks clearly, moves quickly, and has strong instincts about what makes people pay attention, and highly passionate about getting the word out about our meaningful work. Someone curious about law, innovation, startups, legal education, AI, and the changing market and business of law. Someone who wants to help create new opportunities for students and practitioners.

LexLab seeks a Media Strategist who has excellent judgment, cares about language, moves quickly, is curious about the future of law, is self‑directed and comfortable working with smart and busy people, cares about students and learning, and is mission‑driven.

Reporting to Shashi and DJ Deb Endowed Professor of Practice and Faculty Co‑Director of LexLab Tal Niv and LexLab Co‑Director Drew Amerson, the Media Strategist will be responsible for LexLab’s media strategy development and execution. The following non‑exhaustive list includes examples of the kinds of projects on which the Associate Director will work:

• Develop and execute LexLab’s media strategy, including campaigns tied to LexLab’s mission, identification of effective communication channels, and an editorial calendar aligned with LexLab’s programming.
• Proactively source stories from LexLab’s programming and community, to support media campaigns and increase visibility.
• Create multimedia content, including by drafting stories and communications, grounded in research regarding developments in legal technology.
• Document and promote LexLab events through relevant media and communication channels.
• Build systems to streamline content by developing repeatable content formats such as founder spotlights, maintaining a shared editorial calendar, and coordinating approval of content.
• Track and analyze engagement data to measure the effectiveness of media efforts and refine LexLab’s media strategy.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

• Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations, marketing, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Minimum four years of relevant professional experience in communications, journalism, digital content, marketing, public relations, or a related field.
• Experience developing and executing communications, media, or content strategies for an organization, publication, company, university, nonprofit, or similar organization.
• Experience creating, writing, and editing digital and social media content.
• Experience developing content from programs, events, initiatives, or organizational activities and translating complex information into clear and engaging stories.
• Experience working with multiple stakeholders, including faculty, students, staff, senior leaders, partners, or community members. Experience in the technology industry or in legal technology is helpful but not required.

• Excellent writing, editing, and headline judgment.
• Experience managing social or digital content for an organization, publication, company, school, nonprofit, or community.
• Familiarity with the platforms used by professional, academic, startup, legal, or policy audiences.
• Ability to translate complex ideas into clear, engaging content.
• Comfort creating or coordinating lightweight visuals, short‑form video, quote cards, carousels, clips, or simple explainers.
• Experience managing an editorial calendar and meeting deadlines.
• Ability to identify strong external story angles and draft clear press releases, pitch notes, media advisories, or announcement copy.
• Comfort building and maintaining targeted media lists for reporters, editors, newsletters, podcasts, partner organizations, and other external audiences.
• Ability to work with faculty, students, founders, senior leaders, partners, communications colleagues, and external media contacts.
• Familiarity with analytics, audience feedback, and performance tracking.
• Strong organizational skills and sound professional judgment.
