Job description

The Middle School Math Teacher will teach mathematics (pre-algebra, algebra, geometry) to students in grades 7-8. In MLC’s dual immersion model, math in these grades is taught in English, and builds from their knowledge and skill developed in the elementary grades using Cognitively Guided Instruction methodology and the Imagine Learning Math Curriculum.

Teachers at MLC are responsible for fulfilling the goals and objectives of MLC’s educational program as described in its charter. This includes preparing and implementing lessons that are engaging and integrated across subject matter, designing a standards-based curriculum in two languages, effectively managing the classroom and student behaviors, and assessing and evaluating student outcomes to target growth. Teachers at MLC commit to professional growth and development and participate fully in opportunities for professional development to improve practice and meet school-wide goals.

Teachers must be committed to preserving the mission, vision, and educational philosophy of the school. This includes collaborating with the school community to maintain a positive learning environment promoting values such as respect, safety, mutual support, motivation, and personal growth.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Create and maintain effective environments for student learning, where students are excited about learning and preparing for college and career.
  • Understand and organize subject matter for student learning in a way that fosters individual and group investigation.
  • Plan instruction and design differentiated learning experiences for a range of needs and abilities utilizing the Common Core Standards.
  • Use formative and summative assessments of student learning to drive instruction.
  • Collect and analyze student data to improve the schoolwide instructional program.
  • Collaborate with Inclusion Team, students and families to support the academic and social development of students with disabilities and suggest options for improvement.
  • Attend IEP, 504, and SST meetings as required for your students
  • Continually support student behavior with systems for feedback, reflection, and growth.
  • Monitor student progress and maintain student records and portfolios
  • Communicate and actively build strong relationships with students and parents/guardians on a weekly basis, including leading parent conference meetings.
  • Welcome open inquiry and peer feedback and review.
  • Participate in schoolwide events such as BackToSchool Night, Open Houses, and ParentTeacher Conferences
  • Attend and implement professional development training throughout and beyond the school year.
  • Participate on school governance committees and in decisionmaking process.
  • Recruit and retain students and families to the dualimmersion program.
