Reports to:  Director of Environmental Services

Job Summary

The Assistant Director of Environmental Services supports the Director in overseeing daily EVS operations at St. Vincent's Carmel, a 125-bed acute care facility. This role is responsible for helping ensure a clean, safe, and compliant environment while driving service excellence and supporting team performance.  The Assistant Director plays a key leadership role in managing frontline operations, supporting supervisors, and partnering with hospital departments to meet operational and regulatory standards.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the Director in managing day-to-day EVS operations and departmental performanceLead and coordinate the activities of supervisors and frontline staff
  • Ensure the facility remains clean, sanitary, safe, and "inspection-ready" at all times in compliance with regulatory standards
  • Conduct routine inspections and evaluate facility cleanliness and conditions
  • Assist with staffing plans, schedules, and workflow coordination to meet operational needs
  • Partner with nursing, clinical, and administrative teams to ensure alignment and service excellence
  • Support the execution of departmental projects and operational initiatives
  • Maintain proper inventory levels and ensure teams have necessary supplies and equipment
  • Foster a positive work environment focused on engagement, accountability, and development
  • Participate in staff meetings and contribute to communication across departments
  • Perform additional duties as assigned


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree preferred (or equivalent experience)
  • Minimum of 3+ years of EVS/housekeeping management experience, preferably in a healthcare or hospital environment
  • Strong customer service mindset with a focus on patient experience
  • Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and follow-through skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Contract-managed services experience is a plus
  • Strong computer skills, including email and internet applications
