Your role

We are looking for an experienced Tech Lead to provide technical leadership across multiple Core Services teams. This role sits above individual Engineering Managers and Tech Managers, acting as the senior technical authority responsible for shaping architecture, establishing engineering standards, and ensuring a scalable, reliable platform across the domain.

You will work across four Core Services PODs, driving technical strategy, influencing engineering direction, and solving complex cross-team challenges. Success in this role requires strong engineering judgment, exceptional communication skills, and a proven ability to lead through influence rather than direct authority.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead cross-team architectural initiatives and ensure consistency across the Core Services platform.
  • Guide teams on system reliability, operational excellence, and production readiness.
  • Partner with Tech Managers and senior stakeholders to align technical decisions with business objectives.
  • Mentor senior engineers and technical leaders, fostering engineering excellence across the organization.
  • Act as the escalation point for complex technical challenges spanning multiple teams and services.

Required Experience & Skills

Technical Expertise

  • 10+ years of backend software engineering experience, including a demonstrated track record of technical leadership across multiple teams or a significant business domain.
  • Deep expertise within the JVM ecosystem, with strong hands-on experience in Java.
  • Experience with Scala, or a strong interest and ability to quickly learn and adopt it.

Leadership & Influence

  • Proven ability to define technical direction and establish standards adopted by multiple engineering teams.
  • Strong communication, stakeholder management, and influencing skills.
  • Ability to align engineers, tech leaders, and business stakeholders around a shared technical vision without relying on organizational hierarchy.

  • Strong background in production operations and system reliability, including:
  • Monitoring and observability
  • Alerting and incident management
  • On-call ownership
  • Troubleshooting and debugging large-scale distributed systems
Nice to Have
  • Production experience with Scala and functional programming principles.
  • Experience building backend systems using Go.
  • Knowledge of cloud-native technologies and modern infrastructure, including:
    • Docker
    • Kubernetes
    • CI/CD pipelines
  • Strong understanding of distributed systems patterns and large-scale architectures.
  • Experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases.
  • Experience mentoring senior engineers, Tech Leads, Engineering Managers, or technical leadership teams.
