Work Arrangement: This role follows a hybrid schedule and requires in-office presence in Columbus, Ohio two days per week.
Location Requirement: Candidates must be based within a commutable distance to Columbus, Ohio.
Work Authorization: This role does not qualify for employer-sponsored work authorization. Nationwide does not participate in the STEM OPT Extension program.
This position is part of the Digital Member Hub team within Enterprise Internet & Mobility (EIM) BSA. The team supports a suite of applications that deliver foundational digital capabilities across all customer channels, including web, mobile, chat, and voice. These capabilities support several mission-critical applications, including Customer Identity and Access Management (CIAM), Customer Account Management (CAM), Preference Center, and the Customer Online Account Support Tool (COAST).
Digital Member Hub applications are supported by three agile development lines focused on modernizing existing capabilities while also delivering new and innovative solutions using the latest technologies. This role is for a Specialist, Software Engineer who will contribute to the development and deployment of digital products.
Technical Skills
  • Strong understanding of software development principles and coding best practices
  • Full-stack development experience
  • Knowledge of front-end web development technologies and techniques
  • Experience with Java, Spring Boot, and Angular
  • Familiarity with DevOps and cloud technologies, including Apigee, AWS, Git, Maven, Jenkins, Harness, and CI/CD pipelines

As a Software Engineer, you will focus primarily on providing high quality, efficient technology solutions to business partners by crafting new software applications or modifying and/or supporting existing packaged or custom-built applications. In this capacity, you'll analyze, code, configure, test, debug, document and maintain applications.
Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
  • Analyzes, solutions, develops, tests, debugs, documents and deploys software according to standards in an agile environment.
  • Applies secure software and systems engineering practices throughout the delivery lifecycle to ensure our data and technology solutions are protected from threats and vulnerabilities.
  • Uses DevSecOps practices, tooling and techniques.
  • Drives continuous improvement and learning through ongoing training, practice and innovation.
  • Manages medium to large project priorities, deadlines and deliverables proactively.

May perform other responsibilities as assigned.
Reporting Relationships: Reports to a Technology Manager/Director.
Typical Skills and Experiences:
Education: Completion of undergraduate studies in computer science, management information systems, or other related degree. Technology experience or non-traditional technology certificates can be substituted for an undergraduate degree.
Experience: Four or more years of analysis and technology experience.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Proficiency in one or more programming language such as Java, C++, Python, JavaScript. Strong knowledge of software development lifecycle. Proven ability to tackle complex business and development problems. Ability to thrive in a team environment. Insurance/financial services industry knowledge a plus.
Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.
Staffing exceptions to the above must be approved by the hiring manager's leader and Human Resources Business Partner.

The expected starting salary range for Specialist, Software Engineer : $95,500.00 - $143,500.00
