Job description

Marmon Foodservice Technologies, Inc.

As a part of the global industrial organization Marmon Holdings-which is backed by Berkshire Hathaway-you'll be doing things that matter, leading at every level, and winning a better way. We're committed to making a positive impact on the world, providing you with diverse learning and working opportunities, and fostering a culture where everyone's empowered to be their best.

Though you may not know us by name, you've most likely enjoyed meals and refreshments supported by our industry-leading brand portfolio. For decades, we've designed and manufactured foodservice equipment for some of the world's biggest, most recognized consumer brands. We are driven to innovate with a clear purpose in mind: revolutionize the future of foodservice.

The Senior Buyer is responsible for driving the evolution of the purchasing organization from a manual, email-driven environment to a standardized, automated, and data-driven procurement process. Reporting to the Purchasing Manager, this role combines strategic sourcing expertise with strong process improvement and systems capabilities.

The successful candidate will work closely with Purchasing, IT, Supply Chain, and suppliers to maximize the use of supplier portals, ERP workflows, automation tools, and digital technologies. The long-term objective is to enable buyers to manage by exception rather than through manual transactions, increasing efficiency, scalability, and supplier collaboration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the transformation of purchasing processes toward automation and digital workflows.

  • Drive adoption of supplier portals, electronic acknowledgments, automated order confirmations, and self-service supplier collaboration.

  • Partner with IT and ERP teams to identify, design, test, and implement procurement system enhancements.

  • Eliminate manual email-based purchasing activities by standardizing and automating transactional processes.

  • Develop exception management processes, allowing buyers to focus on supply risks, shortages, and strategic issues rather than routine transactions.

  • Analyze procurement workflows and identify opportunities for efficiency, simplification, and cost reduction.

  • Support implementation of new ERP functionality, supplier integrations, EDI/API connections, and workflow automation.

  • Create KPIs and dashboards to monitor supplier responsiveness, automation rates, purchase order cycle times, and process compliance.

  • Train and coach purchasing team members on new digital tools and best practices.

  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives using Lean principles and process mapping.

  • Work cross-functionally with Planning, Operations, IT, Finance, and suppliers to improve procurement effectiveness.

  • Interact with Commodity Management team that supports sourcing activities, supplier negotiations, and issue resolution as required.

Required Skills & Competencies

Technical Skills

  • Strong understanding of procurement and supply chain processes.

  • Experience with ERP systems (Infor LN, SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar).

  • Experience implementing supplier portals or supplier collaboration platforms.

  • Knowledge of workflow automation and digital procurement tools.

  • Strong analytical and data management skills.

  • Advanced Excel and reporting capabilities; Power BI or similar analytics tools preferred.

  • Understanding of EDI/API integrations and electronic supplier communication is highly desirable.

Leadership Competencies

  • Process-oriented mindset with a passion for continuous improvement.

  • Ability to challenge legacy ways of working and drive organizational change.

  • Strong project management and cross-functional coordination skills.

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.

  • Ability to influence without direct authority.

  • Customer-focused and results-oriented.

Preferred Experience

  • 5+ years in Purchasing, Supply Chain, or Procurement.

  • Experience leading procurement transformation or automation initiatives.

  • Lean, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement experience preferred.

  • Experience working closely with IT teams on system implementation projects.

  • Manufacturing environment experience preferred.

Success Measures

The successful candidate will help transform the purchasing organization by:

  • Increasing supplier portal adoption.

  • Reducing manual email transactions.

  • Increasing automated purchase order confirmations.

  • Reducing buyer transactional workload.

  • Improving supplier response times.

  • Increasing purchasing productivity through exception-based management.

  • Driving continuous system and process improvements in partnership with IT.
