SUBFUNCTION DEFINITION: The Infection Preventionist develops, reviews, and updates the facility's protocols and procedures for infection control and prevention and insures adherence through rounding, education & intervention; performs surveillance for nosocomial infection; & acts as a consultant/collaborator on multiple committees house-wide.

REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES

Infection Control

Requires specialized depth or breadth of expertise in clinical discipline; breadth of knowledge in related job areas Independently achieves operational, project, and service objectives Leads other employees, teams or projects of risk Manages varied and complex cases; trains others within job area.

Supervise, conduct, and oversee surveillance and reporting of communicable diseases, healthcare associated infections, and/or health risks from the built environment, including air and water. Complete necessary reports, review and approve ICRAs and facilities and construction documentation, and maintain records to document infection prevention and control activities. Lead collaboration with program members and external stakeholders to identify areas of risk of endemic and epidemic healthcare acquired infections and from the built environment to patients, visitors and employees. Make recommendations to program director based on learnings. Participate in and lead the development of policies and procedures to identify and reduce risks to patients, families and employees. Lead and coordinate outbreak investigations and bio response preparation and execution. Oversee collaboration with Employee Health and Occupational Safety and Environmental Health to provide post exposure testing, treatment and prophylaxis. Lead the program in one of the following key areas

Compliance

Establish and maintain working relationships with stakeholders throughout CCHMC to carry out Infection Prevention and Control program activities. Respond to Program Coordinator requests and deadlines in a timely manner. Supervise provision of accurate, concise information in response to stakeholder inquiries. Represent the program as a leader and active member of committees and group rounds to identify risks, facilitate policy adherence, and insure compliance with regulatory standards at the hospital base and satellite facilities. May represent the Program Director in his/her absence

Research

Under the direction of the Program Director, lead or participate in research activities related to infection prevention and control. Collaborate in publication and presentation of program data in peer-reviewed journals and at local and national conferences. May identify mentor(s) and project for advanced degree training or certification (e.g., master's degree). May participate in or lead project development and funding proposal submission

Data Management

Oversee data entry into and maintain local and external electronic databases (NHSN, ODRS, Vigilanz, Epic). Conduct and oversee regular, routine data analysis and visual report displays to provide meaningful data to program members and stakeholders. Review timeliness, accuracy, availability and security of information. May instruct and oversee others data management efforts.

Process Improvement

Participate, lead, and support performance improvement efforts related to infection prevention and control

Additional Tasks of an IP Team Leader:

• Has ability to seamlessly lead and cover all clinical and environmental aspects of the infection prevention and control department
• Supervises direct reports and cultivates the learning and growth of others within the department.
• Seeks to continually build oneself as a leader at Cincinnati Children’s
• Can represent the Director of Infection Control as needed as their delegate.
• Oversees the day-to-day operations of the department (IPC workload, coverage, staff responsibilities, schedules, staff meetings)
• Responsible for ensuring program administrative tasks are completed (risk assessments, annual reports, IPC plan, policies)
• Assists with call duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Required:

• Masters degree in related field.
• 5 - 7 years of work experience in a related job discipline.
• CIC Required

Preferred:

Will be required to travel to Cincinnati Children's locations in Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana. Travel is generally scheduled in advance.
